Use in classification[edit]

In classification a string grammar is used for encoding some property as a continuous string. For example is a DNA sequence a string grammar. In the CTC cost for speech recognition, the CTC stands for Connectionist Temporal Classification, such a continuous string is the intermediary output from a neural net taking a spectral analysis (chepstrum) as input.
