Expand and Organize[edit]

I will try to add an info box. It needs sections, but I need input or (preferred) another editor knowledgeable about health care to add them. I started the article because hospitals in different states mentioned PSC certification and I had to go outside WP to find out about the program.

It seems strange to have an article about the third highest level of centers but not the highest and second highest. The rational approach would seem to be to turn this into an article about the Stroke Center Program as a whole, especially because most of the material either applies to all stroke centers, all stroke centers above the lowest level, or primary centers as compared with those not certification at all or with the lowest certification. Similarly, the list of hospitals is a list of third-ranking hospitals for this condition, and it's really strange to have this without a list of first nad second ranking hospitals. (That's why I noticed this--for a system I'm familiar with, Mt Sinai NY, it lists their secondary but not their main hospital center)

The WP articles that do this right are [[List of trauma centers in the United States]\] and Trauma center

There's a special problem in sourcing. The web site, the Joint Commission (on certification) is an extremely promotional site. The Joint Commission is not the only accrediting agency., and so the web page reads" Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers out number the competition 10 to 1." and most of the page describes the benefits of certification to the hospital , not to the patient.

The problem is their method of giving ranks. One might naively think Primary is the highest rank. (This type of problem true not just for stroke centers-- the system is not exactly designed to be confusing, but....)

The clarification is probably best sen by the comparison chart at [1] Summarized , what is actually means is centers that can take care of patients requiring only thrombolytic drugs, but not requiring intra-arterial or mechanical thrombectomy, or neurosurgery.

Hi, thanks! Yes, after writing the article, I realized there probably should be an article on comprehensive stroke centers. I did think that The Joint Commission seemed promotional, but the Natl Summary mentioned only two ways of certification that I found: TJC or state recognition. AHA is well-established, but that site seems promotional, too. Please correct the NY data if it seems wrong. IMPORTANT! I rewrote the article using DGG's suggestions. I kept a temporary, transcluded backup. Will now try to move to new "Stroke center" instead of "Primary Stroke Center."(HAVE MOVED PAGE!) Have also started a list of Stroke centers in the U.S. and will create a new page for it. May need help and TLC with cleanup after the move. This is the first time I have attempted one. Thanks!
