Objection[edit]

I have added a POV tag to the opening body of this page. There are no citations and is rather rhetorical. The statements made are without any factual evidence to back them up. While what is being said my have some truth behind it, it needs to be edited to a more suitable style. Remember that this is an encyclopedia, and what is written in it needs to be completely unbiased. Please do not remove the POV-statement tag until appropriate editions are made. I personally do not have enough spare time to take on this task, but it is an issue that needs to be addressed. Thanks!

promotion[edit]

I have removed several promotional sections for various apparently proprietary methods--complete with tradmark symbols. (They are so promotional in tone, that I suspect them of also being copyvios-- if they are, they should probably be revision deleted as well) . Possibly these methods are appropriate content; if so, they should be added properly, taking care to avoid copy and to provide references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases.

The remainder of the article could use some better references as well. DGG ( talk ) 00:30, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

CP133 2019 Group 7 proposed edits[edit]

Will be adding section on substance abuse prevention programs such as safe injection sites and discussion of nalaxone accessibility. Also will attempt to format for easier reading. Will be adding information about opioid overdoses. 139wiki914bryan (talk) 04:47, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

CP 133 2019 Group 6 Peer Edits[edit]

I believe that Group 7 substantially improved the article “Substance abuse prevention” in numerous ways. For example, they added information about how healthcare professionals can provide education on where to safely inject. This shows that community involvement is essential to preventing substance abuse. Additionally, they added information about naloxone, which is also an important contributor to preventing substance abuse. With more knowledge of this medication, naloxone can help prevent fatalities that occur due to overdose in the community. The group achieved its overall goals for improvement by adding more information into the section regarding substance abuse prevention programs in the community. They included information about safe injection sites and naloxone accessibility in the community. They also added information about the importance of community advocacy in preventing deaths due to opioids. The draft submission reflects a neutral point of view because there are no phrases that suggest positive or negative associations. The article does not make claims on behalf of anonymous people, and I would not be able to guess the perspective of the authors based on the edits made. Group 7 did a good job improving the article of substance abuse. They added an important medication like naloxone that can treat opiate overdose. The group achieved the overall goals for improvement to give this page more sections and information. I like the prevention programs and safe injection sites that are important and were missing from this article. They appropriately cited secondary sources that are freely available to the public. The ones that I thought were really thoughtful and helpful are the Community Based programs and the safe injection sites. JeannyAn (talk) 00:04, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Group 7's edits are consistent with Wikipedia's manual of style, as they are in lay language and are properly formatted under a relevant section heading. Group 7 improved the article by expanding on community-based programs that prevent overdose from substance abuse. I think some of the community programs discussed (specifically safe injection sites) may fit a little bit better under the prevention heading on the Drug Overdose page. This specific page seems to be focused on preventing the initial abuse of substances and, from my understanding, safe injection sites prevent overdoses but do not prevent substance abuse. Manning CJ (talk) 22:09, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The contributions from Group 7, on this page, are substantial and improve the "Community Prevention programs" section. This topic is highly relevant to Wikipedia's audience and warrants these improvements. I don't see any signs of plagiarism or copyright violation. Everything seems to be cited correctly. Lastly, Group 7 accomplished their goal of adding easy to read information about safe injection sites and access to naloxone. OolongTeaLam (talk) 01:53, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Group 7 has considered Group 6's peer review and have decided to keep the edit as is based on the overall feedback provided. We did consider changing the wording of the naloxone but have not figured out a good way at the moment. Andrew.wong3 (talk) 07:13, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I added to this article for my technical and scientific communication class. I did a research assignment where I learned about the role that nurses play in addiction (more specifically opioid addiction). I thought that it would be useful to add some of that information to this article under the "plans on preventing substance abuse" section because I researched several different programs nurses can partake in to prevent substance abuse. I also added a further reading section, where I added some more articles regarding nursing and substance abuse.
