This page used to say that Butylone wasn't a substituted cathinone and indeed the Butylone Wiki page currently says it is "an entactogen, psychedelic, and stimulant of the phenethylamine chemical class". It appears to have been classed as one merely because of the upcoming UK ban on all substituted cathinones, not because it is one but because they wish to ban Butylone too - so simply change the Wikipedia page to say it is one and everybody's none the wiser! Butylone is a substituted cathinone, El3ctr0nika who made the page was under the mistaken impression that this definition would only apply to the compounds with a three-carbon side chain, but this was purely supposition and was not supported by any references. Since the ACMD has included longer-chain compounds in their legal definition of "substituted cathinone" there is no question that butylone falls within this class in the UK at least, and we can expect this definition will be adopted by other governments if analogous "catch-all" laws are brought into effect elsewhere. I certainly didn't change this on the page to support butylone being banned in the UK, as on the evidence it appears butylone (and indeed several other of these compounds) are substantially safer than mephedrone, and using the purported dangers of mephedrone to ban an arbitrarily large group of compounds with no seperate consideration of their risks seems quite an obscene abuse of process in my opinion....but nevertheless, this is what the law now says, and so thats what the wiki page shows. It remains fanciful to believe that legislators would either directly or indirectly rely on statements on WIkipedia, rather than simply enacting a definition that covers Butylone in the first place. reference to justify definition[edit]

The first two sentences give a definition for substituted cathinone: "Substituted cathinones are derivatives of cathinone, which includes some stimulants and entactogens. They feature a phenethylamine core with an alkyl group attached to the alpha carbon, and a ketone group attached to the beta carbon, along with additional substitutions." and the following reference is given to justify the claim: Folker Westphal, Thomas Junge, Peter Rösner, Ulrich Girreser, Rainer Fritsch. My German isn't that great, but that article is just a characterization of a few specific substances that were found.
