South American XV[edit]

All I have done is simply renamed the article. The team has been reassembled and is know as South American XV. The article dose show the history of the team meaning it has all the same information that was originally on it when it was South American Jaguars Rugby.change (talk) 19:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The current team is not the same as the 1980-84 South American Jaguars, which was essentially the Argentine national side but could not play under that name for political reasons. I'd say that the current team requires a new article, which could mention the original Jaguars, but I don't see that the two things are the same at all - the current XV does not include players from Argentina. --Bcp67 (talk) 19:20, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any point in making a new article. It has all the original information on this article about the original Jaguars, plus the upcoming team will include Argentina players but uncapped players are the likely one to represent the side. Plus before I edited and renamed the article, there was a mention about the South American XV v Argentina fixture in 2011. Rugby.change (talk) 19:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, seems reasonable, and the redirect from South American Jaguars will lead readers here. --Bcp67 (talk) 20:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Rugbychange, it's not the same team, so whether you see the point of a new article is irrelevant. If you want to start an article about the teams that have played since 2011, go ahead. Deciding that they are sort of the same team and butchering this article is original research. --hippo43 (talk) 10:09, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Argentine Rugby Union website[edit]

I think: South American Jaguars = South American XV

page # 3: "SUDAMÉRICA XV o JAGUARES" means South American XV or Jaguars

page # 10: "Sudamérica XV"
page # 33: equipo por invitación "Sudamérica XV" means South American XV invitational team

Thank you for providing the source and particularly the translation, that's helpful. I don't disagree that the team that played from 1980 to 1984 was titled "South American XV" - the point here is that it was a completely different team to the current South American XV (or CONSUR XV). The early 80s version was put together for a specific reason, played a number of games and then disappeared into history. The current team is similar, but to me is not the same entity as the original Jaguars. --Bcp67 (talk) 11:19, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding this topic (started more than 10 years ago), I renamed the article to "Sudamérica XV" because the only mention to a Jaguars team appears at the Memoria y Balance 1980 - page 3 published by the UAR.
On the other hand, the team has been always named "Sudamérica XV" on the Sudamérica Rugby (controlling body) website, and other media such as El Gráfico sports magazine, or this, among other publications. Moreover, the name "South American Jaguars" could be confusing if we take into account that "Jaguares" is the official name of a professional franchise, and has been also the nickname of the Argentina "B" team.
