Digimon

Here's what I have quickly put together:

NEO magazine noted the similarities between Summer Wars and a previous work of Hosoda, Digimon Adventure: Our War Game, noting that the latter was "plainly a prototype" for Summer Wars.

During the copyedit some things came to light that may need attention:

Lead

• "With the aid of upper-classman Natsuki Shinohara's" - not sure what this is, if it is someone from school in a higher class, or referring to an upper-class person.

Plot

• "professor who has been gone for ten years." - Gone from where?

Box office performance

• "..United States the film grossed $1,412 in its opening.." - were the figures really that low? If so should this not be quantified by "United States box office takings were not so good with the film grossing..." or "something similar?
• "had grossed $80,678 in North America." - This includes Canada, Mexico, etc.? North_America#Countries_and_territories - also first para next section.

Film festival screenings

• "Summer Wars had its North American premiere" - The previous section says that the first North American screening was going to be in Chicago, but it says here it was in NY?
• "dub of the film premiered at the New York International Children's Film Festival on November 20, 2010" - that page says the film festival takes place in March every year.

Critical response

• "establish himself as truly a master story teller." - The ref here was exactly the same as the next one. Both were from the Brown page [Our thanks to Guillem Rosset for the following review.]" [2]. This is not by Brown at all it seems...I have combined them both in to one ref. Care must be taken here, this site appears to be owned by Brown but he is publishing reviews in an almost IMDB like format.

Accolades

• "The film was screened at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival and the Leeds International Film Festival." are not really accolades?

Notes

• Ensure that quotations are correctly punctuated. If the original has a comma it goes inside " ," if not it goes outside " ", same with periods.
• Dates using the American method should have commas: "April 1, 2010 was" should be "April 1, 2010, was".
• Accolades - one paragraph was very long so I separated them to leave the NY reviews as one block para.

Differences Between Theatrical and Blu-Ray Release

I can't state with absolute certainty as I do not have both copies in front of me, however I do recall a moment during my cinema viewing of Summer Wars that differs to that of the Blu-Ray.

The night before the grand-mother dies the 'Love Machine' A.I. makes some investigations and discovers the cardiac monitor (indicated via the family crest). It then turns that monitor off.

This is not shown on the blu-ray edition and I cannot find any details on the internet as to why the edit was made (or if this is indeed the case). Could anyone else confirm or deny this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.0.97.236 (talk) 19:27, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Did it actually turn it off? or is that only implied in the theatrical version? I cannot speak for the Blu-Ray version since I have the DVD version and we actually see Love Machine discover the cardiac monitor, although we don't see it turn the monitor off. ggctuk (2005) (talk) 20:12, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

The scene where Love Machine turns off Sakae's monitor is not used in either version, so it is pretty safe to assume that it should not be included in the article and both versions contain the same scene. In any case, differences between film releases would have to be backed up by a third-party reliable sources to verify those claims. Hope this sorts everything out. I cannot recall if Love Machine turns off the monitor, but the whole tracing scene did not happen on the blu-ray. I do however agree that until a reliable source is found it should not be added to the article. Precognition?

This anime has themes that could be easily connected to the real-world Stuxnet / Duqu nuclear attack military malware saga on one hand, and GPS-hacking on the other hand, e.g. the RQ-170 drone's recent forced landing in Iran.

Since the Duqu saga started in mid-2007 at the latest (but was not publicly discovered until late 2011), one must wonder if the animators had some prior knowedge to create something so strange or unrealistic at the time? 82.131.128.240 (talk) 17:42, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Summer Wars and Amazon ranking

Can someone scrub the article for the Summer Wars Amazon rankings? A lot of the links there are no good anymore and don't archive that it peaked in sales. During the Toonami broadcast of 'Summer Wars' #SummerWars was the top Twitter subject during the broadcast, and the DVD became the top seller in the foreign film category and 2nd top seller behind Up on Poppy Hill, on Amazon in the hours after the Broadcast on Toonami on Dec. 15 2013. as of September 2014, Summer Wars is the 3rd highest rated on Amazon's Foreign Films Category, and the 6th highest rated in the Anime category behind Soul Eater, Black Lagoon, and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood with a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 467 customer reviews, making it the Highest Rated Anime film on Amazon. During the 2014 broadcast of Summer Wars #SummerWars became the top twitter trend during the broadcast once again beating #NickionSNL, not only this, but the film reached number 1 in Amazon's Foreign Films Category the day after its 2014 Toonami broadcast. as of November 2015, Summer Wars is 5th highest selling film on Amazon's Foreign Films Category and is 2nd in Amazon's Most Gifted in the Foreign Films category behind "When Marnie was Here."
