Fetch

Correct me if im wrong but i thought that a fetch was a type of spell a witch could cast, at least thats what i had been taught. Grey witch 11:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

A fetch has similar but slightly different meanings depending on who you ask. The Germanic magical people (Seiðr, Asatru etc) say that it is a part of the soul of a person, possibly one of the subtle bodies, somewhere in the etheric/astral. It is a shape-changer and comes to you at birth. This then would be able to fare forth from your physical body and perform certain work at a distance, possibly with the witch's consciousness going along for the ride, so that the witch experiences traveling as an animal, flying, etc.
A fetch can also, as you say, be a spell, but this is actually the same thing. It involves sending some of your essence out to perform some work. If you're thinking of it as a spell, you're probably not sending quite so much consciousness out with the fetch.
And in a coven environment, or between covens, a fetch is, in some people's terminology, the Summoner or go-between. And of course the similarity between a coven fetch and a personal fetch is more than just superficial. Fuzzypeg 05:30, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Ah ok then thanks for your input, i just wasnt sure about the coven terminology as i am a solitary. Grey witch 09:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Article deletion

I propose we delete this article. I believe it not to be of benefit to be in Wikipedia, as one can find a definition in a dictionary (albeit an occult dictionary). The information within the article in unreferenced and uninformative. Xxglennxx (talk) 17:05, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Summoner's point of view

There is not much you can do to provide references for this article. Wicca and Witchcraft are and have been mystery based faiths. I am a current Summoner for the Wiccan Church of Canada and, although there are many similarities, my duties do differ slightly from those of a traditional, coven, Summoner. The WCC is a public practice of Wicca and so there are aspects of my duties that can be talked about but there are also aspects that are oathbound and I cannot speak of them except with past Summoners of my tradition and initiates of my tradition. I have had discussions, though, with Summoners of other traditions, as well as coven Summoners. In general, we have the same job but it is not exactly as this article would paint it. I will consult with my teacher and possibly add to this article to clear a few things up, BUT, I won't be able to source anything because these things are partly oathbound and cannot be published without publishing oathbound material.
