Stub[edit]

I think that the article should no longer be classified as a stub as it has increased in length and is now quite long compared to most other stubs. If anyone disagrees or wants to leave comments please just reply to this. Thanks --ItIsMe 02:31, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unkown number of minigames?[edit]

According to an interview in UK games mag, ONM, there are 'over 100' minigames, which is a lot better than 'an unkown amount'--The last sheikah 09:51, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I sincerely doubt that there would be that much mini-games. They probably meant over 100 stages.--210.11.82.26 11:46, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UK mag NGamer report that only 30 to 40 minigames will make it to the final game. The "over" 100 figure comes from the amount of ideas they have. As for stages, there are 100 traditional puzzle boards and 200 challenge stages.--BGBW 14:48, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baby's Visor[edit]

The trivia claims it is unknown why he has the visor, however in the recent issue of the UK magazine NGamer there's an article about this game. In this article the official art for the game depict Baby with a visor, so I guess it's just a new character design. BGBW 14:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The 50 Mini-games[edit]

According to IGN[1], every day from Monday to friday up until the game's release, they will announced/unveil a new mini-game from Super Monkey Ball: B.B. Soon, we may be able to find out what they all are. (knuckles_sonic8)

New Character?[edit]

Potentially an unlockable character. Do you think it is: http://media.wii.ign.com/media/824/824977/img_3932406.html

Confirmed; added link to Trivia. Two new characters will appear. Knuckles sonic8 02:34, 27 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2 Sega Mascots[edit]

Also...somehow this article missed out the mention of 2 popular (though yet to be announced) Sega Mascots whom were in the Playable Demo in Leipzig. I've added a link to the article, but I don't know how to add references (as in the little box with a number on it), so if someone could tidy that up it'd be great.

Actually, they have been confirmed. Their names are "Doctor" and "YanYan". Unless I'm mistaken, those are the two being referred to in the article, so I removed it. Knuckles sonic8 02:11, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the article:
"Interestingly enough, there were two new selectable characters in the demo besides the monkeys, but they haven't been announced just yet so we cannot reveal them here at this point. However, you can probably guess them for yourselves...how many SEGA mascots can you think of that would fit into this game well?" http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/728/728426p1.html

Doctor and Yan Yan are definitely not Sega Mascots. By this they're hinting at someone like Sonic, Tails, NiGHTS, or any other Sega Mascot that wouldn't look too out of place in this game.

If it's not in the final version of the game and is a leipzig exclusive then fair enough, but this information is definitely relevant to the Rumours/ Trivia bit, you have to agree.

Also IGN put up a video of Simon Says (I'd add the info but I'd rather know how to add references/ sources to it and I don't know how to do it properly).

Oh, okay. Sorry about that. If this is true, it'll be interesting to see, that's for sure!! :D Anyway, I'll look into the Simon Says thing and add it for you. Thanks for clearing that up. :P Knuckles sonic8 00:37, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem dude, and yeah it should be interesting, I just hope it's part of the final game and not just some novelty they chucked in for the Press. I think there's a high chance it will be in the final game though. Also, the source still needs to be tidied up, I just posted the link, I don't know how you do those reference things were you add them as a little numbered square and have them all listed in the references at the bottom. So if you want to tidy that up...Kermit1986 02:51, 7 October 2006 GMT

There's a vid on IGN you should look at. It's called "Opening Levels". After viewing it, at about "00:36", you'll see the Character Select screen. There are four other circles that could be for characters! Which means, there are, likely, 4 unlockable characters and all 4 maybe SEGA Mascots! :D Knuckles sonic8 00:01, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Mini-game: Simon Says[edit]

Look at the screen for "Flag Panic" and see the screengrab for the video for Simon Says, both on IGN. Are they the same mini-game except with a different name (as was the case with the previously-referred to "Monkey Baseball)? :S Knuckles sonic8 01:12, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also...I was just on the official Sega SMB:BB site) and under the features section and under Party Games it says "50 new party games like Whack-a-mole, Ring toss, and Spaceship landing will keep the party going for hours!" The main thing to note is "Spaceship Landing" as Ring Toss and Whack-a-Mole are already announced and on the wiki page. Kermit1986

Added it. Knuckles sonic8 23:35, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.supermonkeyball.com/partygame/ss_10.html. New mini-game, also? Knuckles sonic8 00:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it refers to the "black-smithery game" comment made at the bottom of the mini-game list, that sources it back to a trailer from Tokyo Game Show. Tentatively, should we refer to it as this - Black Smith or something along those lines? Knuckles sonic8 00:23, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to the user that added it for me. Knuckles sonic8 21:59, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charting the Course[edit]

I think maybe to enhance the quality of the mini-games section, we should put them into a chart. Sub-headings would be: Mini-Game, Descriptor, Official/Tentative Name, Source, Gameplay, Nunchuk Peripheral Required (Check or X). Thoughts? Knuckles sonic8 00:28, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Media DVD-ROM"[edit]

The Wii will not be using DVD-ROM as its optical media, but what is it called? I would change it, but I'm not sure what the general consensus is for the medium for Wii games. Would it be "Wii Optical Disc"? --JoeTrumpet 20:55, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would add to article but names are still unknown. Were these ever made reference to anywhere else? We could make speculatory names/tentative titles for now. What would we call each one, temporarily? Knuckles sonic8 20:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scratch that; they've all been determined and implemented into the article now. Knuckles sonic8 17:09, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mini-Games Uncovered[edit]

Take a look at these two topics: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=932708&topic=30660117&page=2, http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=932708&topic=31795628.

They both list all the 50 minigames found in the game. We should see which ones we have in the article and which ones have yet to be added. Knuckles sonic8 21:21, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They're all done now AND I have alphabetized them also! :D Knuckles sonic8 16:13, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cobalt Caverns[edit]

The article here says Cobalt Caverns is an underwater cave. This is untrue; Cobalt Caverns is a stage littered by hallucinogenic mushrooms and themed on surrealism. The blurry blue backround you see in the Course Select is designed to stand out from the glowing bright neon colors of the stages. Ron Stoppable 09:29, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Know the game's actual description of the stage? Knuckles sonic8 21:07, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It has none. The manual doesn't say anything about the stages themselves (only that a Main Game exists and that you take the monkey to the goal); the in-game stage select screen for the Main Game only tells you it's called "Cobalt Caverns" and shows you the washed-out blue background; there are no cutscenes for any world except Monkey Island (and probably Space Case). I didn't find out myself until I reached that world. I can try taking pictures of the TV screen on one of those stages, though I'll probably be without a camera until about two weeks from now.
Looking at the backgrounds themselves though, I'll bet IGN's 2-hour run ended at Smooth Sherbet. Every description beyond that can be inferred from the backgrounds shown during stage select. (You can't access a world without clearing the previous one, by the way. I'm up to Space Case right now.) Ron Stoppable 02:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet! Congrats. I heard that stage is pretty difficult. I never watched IGN's 2-hour run so I wouldn't know. Is it recent? On the note of the manual, know where I could find scans of it? Alternatively, what does the manual say? I think there may be info we can add to the article. Knuckles sonic8 13:54, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the difficulty ramps up at Smooth Sherbet, and it starts to get insane at Cobalt Caverns. After that, the curve is among the steepest I've ever seen. I haven't seen IGN's run either (do they actually have a video of it?), though in all honesty, Cobalt Caverns is the only world whose motif isn't obvious from the background.
I also have a correction to make: It's probably not themed on hallucinogenic mushrooms, but bioluminescent mushrooms. The colors suggest so. It could be both though. After going through Cobalt Caverns some more though, I found out the ceiling of the cave has a weird pattern to it, which looks much like chains of algae. Below the stages is an underground river fowing through the bottom of the caverns, dispelling the idea that this takes place underwater. I won't be able to take pictures until next week though.
I don't have the manual with me right now, but it really doesn't say much except short character profiles, short descriptions of the modes, and the controls. I'll see what I can do next week, when I'm reunited with my Wii and games. Ron Stoppable 11:45, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. Well, thanks for your help. I can't wait till I get my Wii so I can play this game! :D I've decided to get this, then Raving Rabbids. And pictures would be great but no rush. Just do whatever you can and whenever you can. Again, thanks. Maybe I'll come by something on the web somewhere for the manual scans. Knuckles sonic8 20:41, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, at least I've been able to find a YouTube video that seems to take place in Cobalt Caverns. It's the UFO mini-game, but the glowing mushrooms are certainly there. I'll continue to look for a better proof, since it doesn't show the background well, if at all. Ron Stoppable 05:29, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, what are the designated names for each of the modes? Could you give details on each - not the 50 mini-games per se. I'm also curious with regards to the story. I know Bad-Boon is the boss for Space Case but I don't know how he fits into the story. Anything else I'd appreciate and could potentially add it/them to the article. Should we rename this section? :P Knuckles sonic8 22:54, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Main Game really only has one mode--the Main Game. There's no Challenge Mode, multiplayer or not, though there's a Practice Mode. This game has pretty much been stripped down to its simplest; there's really very little to describe outside of the mini-games, which I don't care about so much.

Also, from what I've seen, the boss of Space Case is NOT Dr. Bad-Boon. He doesn't resemble the bad Doc at all, he doesn't say a word, and he's absolutely enormous, easily ten times the size of Aiai and company. (Also, Sinking Swamp and Ultra Heaven have no bosses.)

The boss of Jumble Jungle would probably be far closer to Dr. Bad-Boon, green skin aside. He has the lab coat and technologically-oriented equipment. (I don't think it's Bad-Boon though.) Of course, this means he isn't the "robot" the article describes; the screenshots demonstrate he has a lot of organic-looking features. In addition, when he's defeated, he just collapses onto the middle of the arena; only his jetpack breaks. He might be a cyborg, but in my opinion, I think he's just a mad scientist/geek, armed with cannons attached to his hands and a jetpack on his back. Ron Stoppable 04:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Am I reading this wrong?[edit]

"There are more mini-games on Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz than all the other games before it combined." More than in all other video games ever combined?? I don't think so.

Think about it? Monkey Ball had 6; Monkey Ball had 12; Monkey Ball Deluxe had 12; Super Monkey Ball Adventure had 6 as well; Junior had 5; Touch and Roll had 6 -> all totals 47 in comparison to this, which has 50 in one. Not too hard to understand. Even if you exclude the party games that were repeated, there are even more. Knuckles sonic8 21:06, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually there are 48 minigames in the series, if you include Monkey Trumps from the PSP version of Super Monkey Ball Adventure. Masky 23:47, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot about that - okay 48 then. :P Knuckles sonic8 21:44, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tunes![edit]

Hey! Everyone's been anxious to hear a ripped version of Banana Blitz. Well... [2]. Enjoy! (And remember, it's not me that rip'd it :P) Knuckles sonic8 01:54, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Minigame list[edit]

The list of minigames has to go, or at least be compressed into a couple of paragraphs of prose. Wikipedia is NOT an indiscriminate collection of information and this is completely unnecessary. Timkovski 17:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have an idea... Give me a minute or two. Knuckles sonic8 18:07, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've been debating whether or not this article (see section you referred to) should be created; I think now would be the best time to test this theory. I have to implement SMB1, SMB2, Touch and Roll, Adventure, DX, and, Jr. Knuckles sonic8 18:33, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Grandpa[edit]

If he's really in the game, does anyone have his stats and a picture?--Rat235478683-- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rat235478683 (talkcontribs) 14:45, 3 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Well he was stated to be unlockable on GameFAQS and the user that "claimed" this said he/she was going to provide a video but as it stands, it's quite possible that it could not be true but it could be true also so it's hard to say... as a matter of fact, I'm gonna go check now and see if there's anything new on this. Knuckles sonic8 18:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the sources that make reference to this new entity: [3] [4] [5]

I don't know what to believe anymore... :P If this "video" doesn't show up in a few days, I'm dubbing it as fake. Knuckles sonic8 19:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, the last source describes it as "simply." After the first world, nothing is simple in Monkey Ball. I'll attempt this anyway...but only after I've cleared every stage, which may take a great deal of time itself. (Also, the name "Grandpa" is seven letters long and doesn't fit into the "Name Entry," though that rule can be bypassed since his name never shows up there.) Ron Stoppable 04:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

its actually "grampa" but I dont know. should this be in the artical?~union_K

Hidden Banana Bunches[edit]

Anyone care to update this with info regarding the Hidden Banana Bunches and requirements for Completes on the levels? Sklarface 09:37, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, because this is supposed to be an encyclopedia article, not a gameguide. Timkovski 10:20, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Won't have chances of seeing that here anytime soon (if at all). I know there's a whole thread on that matter on GameFAQS, entitled "Hidden Banana Bunch Locations". Go figure. :P Knuckles sonic8 16:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Manual[edit]

Well, I finally have the game but no Wii still. :( Anyway, I may do some manual scans and other odd ends to improve the article and I shall keep everyone posted here I guess. Knuckles sonic8 20:02, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler Warning[edit]

I just moved it. That is all. Juno Loire 09:03, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removing 1 Citation Tag[edit]

I am going to remove the citation tag on the following line. "Players are able to save a total of 30 replays of any of the stages played throughout Story and Practice Mode on their Wii, according to the official manual." In the manual it reads the following: "Save Replay (Main Game Only) Allows you to save the gameplay of the stage you just completed. This can be accessed after you go through the Goal Gate, fall out, or run out of time. You can save up to 30 replays. Note: A caustion message will be displayed if you do not have enough memory space remaining."

I can scan the page if someone wants to be that much of a stickler but for not I am removing the citation tag. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Azslande (talkcontribs) 01:25, 9 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Boss Section[edit]

The boss section needs a big work-over. Wikipedia is not a strategy guide and this section definatly reads like a strategy guide. An alternative would be to delete the whole section. Your choice. Cream147 18:56, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
