Splitting off some content

The Abrams/Coates info should probably be spun off to another draft because the news of Gunn's version said that one was separate and still in development. And maybe the Man of Steel 2, but those plans seem to have been superseded by Gunn's project. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 21:52, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

The Abrams/Coates info is located at Draft:Untitled Black-led Superman film, and I have been meaning to cut it down from this draft. I was thinking the MoS2 info could be put in a "Background" section instead. Trailblazer101 (talk) 22:12, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Didn't find that draft easily, so that's good to know. Yeah, I agree with a cut down and moving MS2 info to "Background". - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:15, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Relation to the DCEU/"New DCU"

I know the film is tentatively considered a part of the DCEU since that's what Gunn and Safran are now overseeing and prioritizing, but James Gunn on social media and a lot of trades in particular are really pushing the whole delineation between the DC Extended Universe and what Gunn calls the "DCU" (assuming it stands for DC Universe like the comics), and even Dwayne Johnson officially used that term to describe this new take on the franchise when announcing that Black Adam wasn't a part of it last night, so are we going to acknowledge this Superman film as part of the DCU going forward instead of the DCEU in that case? All signs especially recently seem to be pointing towards Gunn literally doing a universe-wide reboot especially after the exit of Cavill, the reported exit of Gadot and the way Gunn is describing his and Safran's 10-year plan on social media. Whatever this shared universe sounds like it's being made into its own entity seperate from the DCEU because Gunn has deliberately avoided using that term at all RebelYasha (talk) 00:40, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

I would suggest we wait until the official announcements from Gunn and Safran coming after the New Year to see what those entail before making any decision on what to call the franchise these will all be classified under. The "DCU" naming is honestly not enough to go off of, and how it relates to the DCEU with the multiverse and all of the technicalities that entails. Trailblazer101 (talk) 00:46, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Any assumptions we make without word from RS's or Gunn himself is WP:OR. There is consensus not to refer to the DCEU as DCU, see this RM. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:36, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Deletion discussion

Hey. I thought this might be interesting to you - deletion discussion about this film article that was written and is now a candidate for deletion. Bamba9898 (talk) 23:54, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Why is Merced’s height relevant?

This seems a totally pointless addition to the page. Jamesifer (talk) 08:21, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

It was directly highlighted by the producer Peter Safran in the cited article right after it. It is relevant to the character. This has been reverted and restored several times. Trailblazer101 (talk) 09:35, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Inform?

"Gunn was hesitant to direct the film, despite encouragement from Safran and others, until he realized how focusing on Superman's heritage with his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his adoptive farmer parents from Smallville, Kansas, would inform the character."

in what sense would it have informed the character? Do you mean that the character would be informed about his heritage? Redjedi23 (talk) 10:48, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

In this context, it means that Gunn realized how focusing on Superman's heritage would have an influence on who the character is. "Inform" is the wording the reference uses, which perhaps could be replaced by something that conveys it less ambiguously, even though it is not an uncommon use of the word. —El Millo (talk) 14:54, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
"Inform" is being used in the correct terminology in this instance. Trailblazer101 (talk) 19:06, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
This wording means 'inform the characterization of Superman in the film'. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:58, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you all! I'm not a native English speaker, so thanks because I didn't understand whether it was a mistake or not Redjedi23 (talk) 08:43, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

An editor has requested that Superman (1978 film) be moved to another page, which may be of interest to this WikiProject. You are invited to participate in the move discussion. InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:56, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Kal-El?

Superman isn't just named Clark Kent, so shouldn't we add Kal-El to all mentions of Clark Kent / Superman for full clarity? It only seems right as the film is not going to ignore his alien heritage. The boss 1904 (talk) 04:35, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

It has not yet been confirmed that he will go by "Kal-El" in this film. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:39, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Krypto

@Trailblazer101: This seems to be the source, an interview with the Toronto Sun. The exchange was as follows: (Interviewer): How did you make peace with saying goodbye?

  • Gunn: "I'm not a person who is comfortable saying goodbye … I can't do it."
  • Pratt: "We don't have to say goodbye."
  • Gunn: "I'm going to cry."
  • Pratt: "Are you crying? The frequency with which we spend time together is inevitably going to go down because he's going to go to do movies and I'm going to make movies and when we're not doing that we're going to go back to our families. But we will make time for each other and we'll talk a lot. We'll always be friends. We still have a long life ahead of us so maybe we'll work together again. But for now there's a finality to this trilogy."
  • Gunn: "I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto the Superdog (in Superman Legacy). You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can't talk.
  • Pratt: "I'll do Krypto but you have to pay me in crypto."
  • Gunn: "I'll pay you in crypto, which amounts to zero dollars." [laughs]
  • Pratt: "It sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman — breaking news."

(Interviewer): That's a scoop for me.

  • Gunn: "It is a scoop, I guess."
  • Pratt: "Way to go. You're fired. Back to Marvel." [laughs]

If you ask me, I also think this sounds like a joke, as @JDDJS. Gunn jokingly says he wants to cast Pratt as Krypto in order to keep seeing each other and not have to say goodbye. None of the most serious trades consider this a confirmation of any kind either, only the more clickbait-oriented sites. —El Millo (talk) 23:53, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Obviously they were joking in some parts of there exchange, although during Gunn's recent interview with Michael Rosenbaum, he had this to say via this article covering it: When Rosenbaum shifted the conversation back to Superman and "Legacy," things kicked off with some smiles and some interesting silences regarding the topic of whether or not Krypto would be in the film before Gunn shared how an interview he did with Pratt put that "spoiler" out into the open. In the embedded interview at 1:06:26, they talk about Krypto and Gunn says he and Pratt were talking about Krypto in a interview and I said that he could play Krypto [...] Chris says "oh, now we're saying Krypto's in the movie. That's a scoop". Watching their interaction, it seems it was a joke during that interview, although Gunn was coy about it at first when asked by Rosenbaum and says there is a dog named Krypto in the comics, yeah.
Just to note, Gunn's remarks were attributed by Screen Rant as more than a joke and a confirmation But when it became evident that Gunn wasn't kidding about the iconic Superpet appearing in the new reboot, the director clarified that Krypto is indeed appearing in Superman: Legacy. ComicBook.com took it as a confirmation, as did GamesRadar/Total Film, so to say only the more clickbait-oriented sites called it a confirmation is false.
Also, in an April Rolling Stone interview, there was this exchange teasing Krypto: That said, does his success with Rocket make him more interested in possibly taking a chance on the first live-action cinematic version of Superman’s pet, Krypto the Superdog? He laughs. “I think I would have an interest in a live-action Krypto whether or not I had anything to do with Rocket,” he says. Sources seem at odds on whether this was an explicit confirmation in multiple instances. I don't find it to be something worth butting heads over, and we can easily hide the information until it becomes more clear. Trailblazer101 (talk) 00:50, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Okay, let's hide it then until it becomes clearer. —El Millo (talk) 01:14, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
I have unhidden this info but updated the wording to say that Krypto could appear in the film, since there is enough evidence to support that. I left him hidden in the cast section, I just realised that we don't usually hide the suggestion of a key character being included like this even if they don't end up appearing. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:43, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
