"Occupy Mars"[edit]

There also seems to be a recently released first-person administrator game for administrating a Mars colony, called "Occupy Mars" released around the time of this game -- 65.94.42.168 (talk) 14:01, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack usage on NASA stream[edit]

I have doubts regarding the claim that the game's soundtrack was used in a NASA stream, and regarding the article cited.

Having listened to the part of the stream in question [1], it does resemble quieter parts of the Surviving Mars main theme [2] but it is only a soundalike of the theme itself, also using other elements that are found on the Surviving Mars soundtrack. I could not find any track in the soundtrack that matched the track played on the stream. The tweet cited in the article is ambiguous:

Well this soundtrack sure sounds familiar @NASAPersevere! Honored to have the Surviving Mars theme in such a monumental stream! 🚀 Now where are our domes... 🤔
— @Surviving_PDX [3]

When prompted, the account's operator states that they only found out after the fact:

Did they pay for it though.
— @omnites [4]

We had no idea until I re-watched the stream!
— @Surviving_PDX [5]

It's plausible the account's operator could have been mistaken because of how closely the track matches the general vibe of the game's soundtrack, and the article could have not done any fact checking on such a small story. The article itself is little more than a retelling of the tweet and a reminder of what the Perseverance mission and Surviving Mars are.

Here's a couple of similar articles I found while looking into this: [6] [7] and, anecdotally, a Reddit thread full of people agreeing with me: [8]
