Major Overhaul of this Article[edit]

I have performed a major overhaul of this article. It is the first article that I have ever edited on Wikipedia; I was inspired to do so by the lamentably poor state the article was in. I hope I have not offended anyone by saying so, and doing away with the previous article; the sole piece of information that is not contained in my updated version is an unreferenced assertion that the Cossack armies harassing the Swedish invaders used rifled muskets, whereas the Swedes used smooth-bore muskets.

There were no references in the previous version of the article; my account here is based entirely on the secondary source "The Age of Louis XIV" by Will Durant. He cites several primary sources: Schuyler's "Peter the Great", Voltaire's "Charles XII", Waliszewski's "Peter the Great", and the fifth volume of the Cambridge Modern History. I would be happy to provide expanded information on these citations upon request.

Unfortunately, I could not figure out how to insert references into the article; I apologize for the incompleteness of my edit, and hope that what I have done will be appreciated.

Requested move[edit]

I propose renaming the article "Invasion of Russia by Charles XII"; this accords better with current norms regarding capitalization and possessives. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Carl Wivagg (talkcontribs) 17:59, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
