Notability tag added June 2010[edit]

Two words which are accepted policy: WP:CRYSTAL which resolves to "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball". How notable is any first time festival? How many festivals are held all over the world? But, let's not get into a WP:OTHERSTUFF type debate. Within this article, there already is a treatment of a "rumor" that seem like it was likely accepted and reported upon. It "fell through". This festival is a month away and comes after the World Cup in Africa. It could easily "fall through". It hasn't happened, is just one more festival and fails WP:CRYSTAL because a similar event has already fallen trough. ----moreno oso (talk) 10:53, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not really a festival, it's a competition. Sydney Festival of Football is probably just a working name until a major sponsor comes along. The rumor you speak of was the original news release - several months ago, when Sydney FC in fact were in discussion with several clubs over it. However like i have mentioned, it's been confirmed, hell the New South Wales Premier - in the U.S you call them "Governors" was at the press conference when it was announced. The matches have been confirmed, and tickets for the tournament are going on sale in the coming weeks. On a side note - what is this other event that fell through, the only one i can think of is the 2010 edition of the Pan-Pacific Championships which died a natural death as far as i can see. Yes, and the similar "competition" fell through. Doesn't matter really who announced it. In WP:AFD debates, "notability is not transferred". Just because it's announced, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball with notability transferred. ----moreno oso (talk) 11:46, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Crystal Tag[edit]

I think you're trolling mate, there's enough sources to tell you the tournament is going ahead and is planned - the match list has been written up and published, and tickets are going on sale in the next couple of weeks. If your gonna be consistant with that tag, you may as well slap it on the bloody 2010 FIFA World Cup Page....cause that hasn't started yet  Nath1991 (talk) 04:45, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. WP:CRYSTAL isn't a blanket rule against future events. It is a rule against speculation. There is nothing speculative about this event. It's been scheduled, confirmed, etc.--Mkativerata (talk) 04:50, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
With a history of cancellations, yes. Please don't get into WP:OTHERSTUFF. It's crystal until the event happens. Citations have nothing to do with it. When it happens, it's no longer crystall. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:51, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wanna see you put the tag on the world cup then, sure it starts next week, but you never know, it might fall through. So technically the World Cup is Crystal. Nath1991 (talk) 04:52, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Won't happen cause I'm not on that article. Please see WP:OTHERSTUFF. ----moreno oso (talk) 04:54, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not an Annual thing[edit]

Please feel free to go ahead and fix it, the general idea of the site is that anyone can edit. Camw (talk) 14:15, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge 2010 and main article[edit]

As the event only occurred once (although initially it was planned to run annually), and so the 2010 specific article and main article need to be merged. --TinTin (talk) 22:39, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, makes sense. Macosal (talk) 09:07, 5 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, makes sense. Matilda Maniac (talk) 17:19, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done!
However I have done a pretty manual merge with minimal checking. Please check I haven't missed any content and that it all makes sense.--TinTin (talk) 02:14, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
