Microkernel[edit]

I think the term "microkernel" is misused throghout the article. I doubt SymbOS kernel components work with IPC, which would allow us to replace a kernel component such as "memory manager" with a different one without recompiling the OS. I don't think SymbOS has the concept of user mode/kernel mode either since Z80 itself lacks such mechanisms.

The SymbOS kernel includes the three essential components [1] of a microkernel: memory management, thread handling and inter-process communication (messaging), not more or less. Examples like the first Minix versions show, that memory protection is not a pre-condition for a micro-kernel. JohnLongSilver (talk) 09:38, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
