Profanity[edit]

Who put in the part where no other SF game uses profanity? It's completely untrue, Omega Strain uses profanity! oops forgot to sign Mujarimojo 21:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plot Summary[edit]

It's far too long. I think it can be summed up with a lot less paragraphs but I am too lazy to do it. ShinraiTS4 06:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, there's already been two edit wars regarding the plot summary of the Syphon Filter games. So far, only the first, second, third, and Omega Strain was edited within a reasonable ranging from eight through twelve paragraphs while maintaining the cohesion of the game's storyline. The handheld games, however have been constantly reverted to one paragraph while other well known games like the Metal Gear series for example had a similar amount of leeway due to the large amount of plot information involved. Unfortunately, from my personal experience, I have felt that those that have been constantly removing the edits on both Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow to one paragraph would be under the unintentional violation of meta:don't be a dick. If there are problems with the plot summary, trim by inches, do not chop the whole tree. Dibol (talk) 06:36, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You'd know, Dibol, because you were deeply involved in them, and kicked the whole business off (see here. You've edit warred, made personal attacks, sock puppeted, broke the 3RR, you name it, you've done it, all in favour of plot summaries which are not encyclopaedic (see Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Saying "Other Stuff Exists" is not a reason to keep shit in an article. Your constant failure to adhere to any of Wikipedia's rules does not seem to have hampered you at all, so more power to you. I shall watch on with amusement. Geoff B (talk) 20:14, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overlong plot section.[edit]

The plot section is, quite simply, far too long. Please discuss the reasons for this here on the talk page. Plot sections should be concise, as set out in WP:PLOT. Just so no one can claim ignorance, a definition of 'concise' is available on wiktionary here. Reasons such as 'Other articles have long plot sections' are not applicable. By that rationale, other articles contain original research, so this one should too. Obviously this is a rather erroneous line of thinking. Thanks! Problem is where to draw the line in reducing said articles. I've seen at least articles ranging from seven through nine small or medium-sized paragraphs, which is where it's the murky territory. Some of these articles already stripped the plot to its bare bones as concise as possible (case in point, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Metal Gear Solid 4 had at least nine paragraphs considering the plot nature of the games. Hell, I've seen F.E.A.R. 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3 have seven paragraphs maximum and it didn't explain every possible nuance of the plot). As for the Syphon Filter articles, I did try inching away various parts of the plot summary and tried to get it to the bare bones of the in-game events. Where I see foul play is when seven paragraphs are just reduced to one small paragraph giving little to nothing about the story of the game, despite that the seven to nine small paragraphs they were as concise as possible for explaining the game. You keep bringing other articles into this. Other articles cannot be used as an excuse. Focus on one article, if you can, the one currently being discussed. Plot sections should not explain every nuance of the plot, they are meant to be a synopsis. Seven to nine paragraphs is not 'as concise as possible'. For the purposes of an encyclopaedia, where brevity is necessary, too short is preferable to too long. For good examples, look at Halo, And Then There Were None, etc, for good eaxamples, as they are featured articles. Geoff B (talk) 15:35, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
