I think that this article is about Tày language, a Central Tai language (as classified in Ethnologue, code tyz). An editor may have been misled by the names of some Tai languages in Vietnam classified as Thái group, which are also Tày, so listed some Southwestern Tai languages in the Varieties section. Maybe we should recorrect and write that "Some Tai languages, although named Tày, are actually Southwestern Tai languages, and some of them are parts of Thái official nationality" or so? 113.166.206.241 (talk) 04:44, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, WP articles are about topics, not names. Most of the Tai languages are called "Tai", but that doesn't mean we lump them all together. I reverted. Perhaps "Tày" isn't a good name for the article? — kwami (talk) 05:00, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think this name is just fine. It is used by Ethnologue. Some dictionaries of the language used the name "Tày". Also, I know that many Tày people call themselves or their language some varieties of "Tày" (I've rarely heard one refers to the language as Thổ) 222.254.118.222 (talk) 16:29, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
