"toilet white" Eaton's[edit]

Actually, although I won't contest the removal unless perhaps I or someone comes across a citation, the comparison to toilets and urinals was made by not one but several Vancouver columnists and architecture critics; one of them in particular I remember commenting that one of Toronto's gifts to Vancouver was a bad-looking, smaller copy of the Eaton Centre plunked down on the corner of Robson & Granville, one opf Vancouver's key intersections, of something that "looks like a giant urinal"; not incidentally its new indoor shopping arcade was designed explicity to kill commerce on Granville, so the snub to the remaining commercial stretch of Granville southwards was pointedly obvious in the design, with only a side door faicng that way, not a main facade. Maybe such criticism were in Fotheringham, could have been Lautens, Wasserman, Boyd, or all of them; several of Len Norris' cartoons lampoon the place or feature it in some sarcastic way. I was around when this monstrosity got built and remember the press coverage well. Where the TD Tower is adn the plaza in front of it was once the [[Hotel Vancouver (demolished0}|Second Hotel VAncouver]], though that was before my time; at the corner of Georgia and Howe, once a hub of social activity, there was afer construction only a barren black-glass wall. I'm just relyaing hte message, y'see, not taking the POV. All these articles on Vancouver buildings could be seriously enriched by giong into the press archives of the Sun, Province, Straight around the time of their construction, for ccontemporary views and political contexts. So while it may seem POV to you, it's a widely-held POV even in the "official" media as well as the alternative; it's not the only architectural disaster downtown, but it 's certainly among hte top 10, more like the top 5.Skookum1 (talk) 02:55, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The story of the metal sculpture which stoo in the plaza during Expo and was dismantled and left to rust in a Surrey used-metal yard...that's not able, there was a lot of press about that, not sure what year of the paper archives to look in though....Skookum1 (talk) 02:55, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
