Major reorganization Taiwan Open and Taipei Open[edit]
So how should the articles be organized? OEC ones can stay together, but should Taipei WTA Ladies Open be split up and renamed to Taiwan Open 1992-1994 and Taipei Women's Championship 1986-1989? It shouldn't be kept at Ladies Open which refers to the OEC-sponsored tournament held at Taipei Arena. Should the 1980s and 1990s ones be called Taiwan Open (Taipei tennis) or Taiwan Open (1990s tennis)? The 2016 Kaoshiung-based tournament is the only Taiwan Open one that has a clear WTA label on it even though the others are part of the WTA; should WTA Taiwan Open stay as the title or should it be called Taiwan Open (Kaohsiung tennis). You have to take several things into account. For an individual year, we can use the tournament name for that year. So no troubles yearly. For the entire history of the tournament the name usually takes compromises. Often we use the most common non-sponsored name used by the press/tournament/sportswebsites. Sometimes we can't use those because golf or cricket or table tennis also use the name. Sometimes there is a separate men's event with the same or similar name. So we look for another common name. What the WTA or ATP use in their archives is not always correct. Numerous times we find older newspapers that contradict the WTA and ATP. The one should not be split in my opinion since tournaments get renamed all the time. Plus it's defunct and easy enough to find now. It ongoing events with similar names that can cause some trouble. We know about the move to Taipei... it was originally called Taiwan Open (Kaohsiung) but since it's moving we changed it to its current title. Fyunck(click) (talk) 02:53, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In that case we can just leave the two later articles as is and need to pick a name for the 1980s/1990s article. For 1986, it's Taipei Women's Championship for the 1980s tourneys as confirmed Los Angeles Times. The Chiang Kai-Shek one is just a one off for that first tournament. WTA has some of the handwritten draw sheets and results for the prelims which is funny. In 1992 they switched over to calling it the Taiwan Open and have sponsors from Kraft and P&G. And in 1992 the LA Times called it "The Taiwan Open" and the ITF just lists it as "Taipei City Courts." This and the new events are called so many things it boggles the mind. If you think it would help our readers locate it better I have no problem with a rename to "Taipei Women's Championship." Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:37, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
