Use of Exspheres[edit]

In the summary of ep 1 it stated that Kratos did not have an exphere, and "This makes Lloyd the only character who possesses an Exsphere". I thouhgt I'd raise this as a discussion as it shows Zelos with an exphere in ep 3. It is unclear if Sheena or Raine have theirs as their expheres are normally not visible. (Although it would be natural to assume that if Genis/Kratos do not have theirs then Raine does not either) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sylvanelite (talkcontribs) 10:52, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Zelos did have one in episodes 2 and 4, and Presea has one in episode 4. Although that summary was written when there was only one episode...I'm not sure we should fix that. Cutepresea (talk) 20:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Episode 1: Lloyd a Klutz[edit]

I don't think this is established - he fell over once while running to Collete. This is hardly establishes him as a klutz rather then her. I think maybe in latter episodes we will see Collete's clumsiness. Gelsamel 07:36, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It doesn't give him the title of Klutz. There is no proof of him or any of the other characters being clumpsy. I will remove it. - Alex 'phoenix' Wing 15:30, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree, I have played the game and cleared it a few times. He is not considered "clumsy" by any means. businessman332211 03:14, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on Banishment[edit]

The way I took it is that Lloyd understood what Forcystus said, that he would be targeted as long as he has the expshere. So to me, they weren't really banished but left on his own will. The mayor and the rest didn't seem like they were being jackasses about it either. The only thing I got from that small scene was that Lloyd was obviously being apologetic.

He was indeed banished. It spefically mentioned banished. It's similar to a boss saying someone is fired and htem turning around and saying no, there not, but they quit. They may have quit but either way they were still fired. Same thing here, he was still banished. businessman332211 03:14, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, while it is true that it said that he was banished in the game, this is the OVA that is being discussed and there is no such evidence of Lloyd and Genis getting banished. You may want to remember it deviates from the game's storyline a bit. Also, if anyone remembers, Lloyd told Dirk that the village was attacked because the Desians were after his Exsphere and if he stayed then it would only cause trouble for the villagers and that's why he was leaving. --Cutepresea 19:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exsphere Comment in 1st Episode differences.[edit]

I am not sure if this is evidenced enough - Dirk does say not to "use it" but that could mean not to use it's power to do techniques.

If the exsphere worked all the time and enhanced their fighting abilities (like it is supposed to in the game) then that wouldn't be a visual indication of having one - which is what Dirk wanted to avoid. Gelsamel 13:18, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seal Order[edit]

It's very possible that the game intends you to get the Book from Thoda without doing the seal, then goto Hakonesia, find out the locations of Thoda and Balacruf, then do Thoda 2nd because "you don't like to backtracking". This would mean you can do the water seal AND get Undine at the same time (I am not sure if this is actually possible in the game - I haven't tried.) Gelsamel 06:56, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's possible to do the water seal and get Undine at the same time. Immediately after you release the water seal, one of the characters (I forget which one) says, "What now? Do you want to form a pact with Undine?" and you can choose to fight Undine immediately or come back later. 24.78.109.120 (talk) 18:17, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

8 Episodes[edit]

With it being confirmed in the commentary I will change everything accordingly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedarkpp (talkcontribs) 02:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just discuss if you do not like the way I did it.

Muli300 19:44, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where exactly does the information about 8 episodes come from? Is there any source for it? Otherwise, I wouldn't suggest to have 8 episodes in the article, as Wikipedia should be based on facts.

It came from the commentary on the Third episode. So I if it comes from the mouth of the people that made it I would call it fact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedarkpp (talkcontribs) 05:21, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Muli300 21:19, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you then perhaps edit this as a quote or something into the article or something like that? I cannot speak japanese very well, so I didn't understand anything of that kind from the audio comments. It just feels kind of wrong that here 8 Episodes are shown without any "proof" (or whatever to call it) where anywhere else still 4 Episodes are listed.

Having just listened to the audio commentary, I can second that fact, but for people who can't understand Japanese, I guess it would be hard to believe without written proof somewhere (like on the official site). Cutepresea 22:03, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And I third it. I also agree to wait for it to be announced officially in print or online for completeness. Nbp77 13:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you people cannot look around the internet or do research on your own then change the page back to four episodes but just know this, when you do find out that there are eight episodes let me just tell you this, I told you so. Thedarkpp —Preceding comment was added at 19:01, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm half-tempted to post the rules on verifiability here right now....Nbp77 13:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So am I...and who is "you people?" I was agreeing with you that they did in fact say that there'd be more episodes in the commentary. But I also thought it'd be better if it were actually confirmed somewhere other than a forum so that people who don't understand Japanese won't think that it's unsourced info. Cutepresea 00:30, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I said you people because 138.243.162.141 agreed with you so that would mean that you did not agree with me, unless there was a misunderstanding. Besides that I do not know how you would want me to prove something off of a DVD. I am not a technical junkie. Also confirmed somewhere other than a forum what forum? What are you talking about?Thedarkpp —Preceding comment was added at 02:03, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like there was a bit of a misunderstanding on who was agreeing with whom about what. Sorry about that. And when I mentioned forums, I meant a lot of people on Tales forums are talking about it, but that's not what is considered a reliable source according to Wikipedia's rules. And I know it was confirmed on the commentary (and even though I could rip the commentary off the DVD, that would be useless because the person questioning the fact has already listened to it, but couldn't understand it), but there really aren't any sites that we can link to as a source for the information (besides a forum, but like I said, bad idea), so saying that there will be more episodes before it's on the official site wouldn't be wise. Cutepresea 03:33, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, we will have to wait. Hopefully they will not take too long to "officially" announce. (Officially is in quotes because technically it has been on the DVD, but not online) Thedarkpp

I did not change it back to 8, just to let everyone know. Thedarkpp —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedarkpp (talkcontribs) 18:28, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I didn't think it was you. Whoever edited it obviously didn't read our discussions. Undone! Nbp77 10:56, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It sure is taking them a while to put it on the official site, the DVD has been out for almost a month. Thedarkpp

Undid another 8-episode addition that was written like fansite content.
I think the official site's holding back the announcement until they finalized the recording schedule. Right now, not even the audio commentary for ep 4 has been finalized.
Until then, any suggestions on how to tell the world we know it's in the audio commentary but can't put it in the article until it's on print? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nbp77 (talkcontribs) 14:00, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The fourth OVA is out and an official announcement is still nowhere to be seen... but at least a couple of seiyuu (Katsuyuki Konishi and Yumi Touma) mentioned Tethe'alla in their comments about this "final" OVA in the official website (http://www.ova-tos.com/cast_staff.htm#c03). My japanese is really basic but from what I can understand, their comments remain vague (well, maybe not so much, but you won't find something like 'yes, there will be more OVAs to cover the Tethe'alla Arc'), so I don't really know how much does that qualify as a verifiable source. Your thoughts? Miyazawa Lulu (talk) 11:12, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, they both express how they want to do one, Yumi Touma mentions that it depends on the fans, but the end of the episode itself says "End here Sylvarant Begin here Tethe'alla" (in English). I don't know what they're thinking at the moment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cutepresea (talkcontribs) 02:37, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They mentioned the plan to produce the Tethe'alla arc but not the number of episodes. Could we change the "Episodes 5-8" sub-section in the main article to "Further Episodes" or maybe "Tethe'alla Arc"? Nbp77 (talk) 07:54, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changed the article back to 4 episodes again. Interesting episode-count war going on here, lol. If someone wants to change it back to 8 episodes then feel free but you should add a section where you explain where your information is from. If you are going to rely on the DVD extras, you must translate the Japanese parts in question and quote them for readers to see. You must also state who is saying the quote. It should also be written that nothing has been officially announced yet, and any uncertainty on the part of anyone in the DVD extras should also be mentioned. WikiPorc (talk) 23:35, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fine with 4 episodes. It hasn't exactly been officially announced by ufotable, only discussed by the voice actors a bit. Plus, something Katsuyuki Konishi and Nana Mizuki said in episode 4's commentary kind of made the possibility sound a bit iffy. (Also, if we're going to mention it in the article at all, let's not say four more episodes or episodes 5-8, because I don't believe a number was ever mentioned in Konishi and Tachiki's commentary.) Cutepresea (talk) 20:10, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It needs to be mentioned in the article but not with 8 episodes or 5-8, just let it say future episodes or something like that Thedarkpp (talk) 23:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Claymation[edit]

I saw that somebody posted a Claymation part about Coyote Ragtime Show. Should it stay or should we take it away, and if it stays then we will have to address everything else that ufotable has done like Ninja Nonsense because they all have Clay endings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedarkpp (talkcontribs) 17:54, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I've removed the offending sentence. Patrician Vetinari 21:27, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, I think removing it was for the best. It makes the article better overall. businessman332211 21:35, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Colette's Song[edit]

Shouldn't Colette's song "Uchi e Kaerou" be mentioned somewhere in the article? It was used as an insert song and the ending song for Volume 3, after all. --Cutepresea 19:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did it myself using the information from the soundtrack. If anybody doesn't like the way I did it, feel free to fix it. --Cutepresea 21:04, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Releases[edit]

As mentioned in the history of the main page, I detailed the differences between the Collector's Edition and the Exsphere Edition by translating from the official website. I removed the part about the 8 episodes as being announced in the official website because I couldn't find any mention of it. Nbp77 13:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kvar's death[edit]

I am not sure so I just ask here first: Should there be mentioned that in the game Kvar is "executed" by Kratos? I mean, now the list has a point about him being stabbed only by Kratos and not by Kratos and Lloyd.

But I think it is another difference that now Kratos _just_ stabs him once and doesn't slice him 3 times to death like he did in Symphonia.

So here in the OVA it is more like an attack in a fight where in the game it is somehow an execution of Kvar.

What do you think? Doesn't this change something important in this scene as well compared to the game? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Muli300 (talkcontribs) 12:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshots[edit]

Could the current screenshots be replaced with those NOT from a fansub? It seems... inappropriate somehow Nbp77 13:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was actually going to ask the same thing, seeing as how fansubs are illegal, plus I feel it looks a bit bad in the article. Cutepresea 01:02, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree too, it just feels akward. Thedarkpp —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thedarkpp (talkcontribs) 02:08, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I've removed it from the article. Patrician Vetinari 02:24, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One comment. I don't think fansubs are illegal. What is illegal is to distribute them after the series are licensed. Am I wrong?--88.9.164.61 (talk) 02:05, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unless I'm mistaken, fansubs count as copyright infringement and if I remember correctly most nations have signed a treaty (Bernes?) about respecting each others copyright laws. The only thing the licensing means is that the company gets the right to redistribute the material. Though don't take my word for it, I'm no lawyer. --Execvator (talk) 18:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Episode 2 Differences[edit]

Specifically the item about Raine's "Ruin Mode":
When inside the Triet Ruins, Genis notices that Raine is a ruin maniac, thereby implying that it is the first time that he has seen her obsession with ruins.
The line Genis used could be translated many ways, including noticing something for the first time, and a short way of explaining things.
Since Genis was wearing an embarassed expression and not one of shock like Lloyd and COlette had, I had the impression that it was in the explaining context.
(Yay! I got me a user ID!)Nbp77 13:13, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean about this. I'm really bad when it comes to some parts of Japanese and the ending "nano" or "na no" (depending on how people want to romanize it, they're the same thing) tends to confuse me, and adding that "ka" at the end really didn't help (normally ka would suggest asking, but now that you've said this, I'm even more confused). I just took his expression as that he was embarrassed that his sister was acting like that. Cutepresea 21:02, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was a "ka"? I could have sworn it was a "da". I'll check again later. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.243.162.141 (talk) 23:30, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, yes, you're right, he did say "Nee-san, iseki mania nano da"...I actually had to go back and listen to it myself. Cutepresea 00:15, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anyways, because of the difficulty in defining the exact context Genis' comment was in, I suggest removing that particular item from the list of differences.Nbp77 13:15, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Desians and Renegades uniforms[edit]

Okay, in the "Other Differences" that someone has put up, it says "In the game, the Renegades wear blue-colored versions of the Desians' red-colored uniforms. The OVA had Desians sporting uniforms of both colors." Okay, first off, in the game, the Renegades at Martel Temple were wearing red and the only one wearing something other than red was Vidarr, who was wearing green. And if you look in the Renegades' bases, then you'll see that they wear uniforms of any of the Grand Cardinals' colors. Now, in the OVA, the first episode showed Renegades wearing blue and Desians wearing red. Putting the Renegades in a different color than Forcystus was probably done to show a difference between them (since right after you see the Renegades attack the temple, you see a Desian spying on them. Also remember that Lloyd and the others wouldn't know the difference). Now note, all the Grand Cardinals have a color, and the Desians that are under them wear it. Forcystus and his men wear red (as seen in episode 1), Magnius and his men wear purple (as seen in episode 2), Kvar and his men wear blue (as seen in episode 3), and it hasn't been shown in the OVA yet, but Rodyle and his men wear green. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cutepresea (talkcontribs) 19:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the information on the Desians' uniforms is notable enough for this page. Should we remove it? Patrician Vetinari 22:06, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. Looks like I have to play the game over. Undoing.... Nbp77 23:38, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ToSOVA2.JPG[edit]

Episodes 5-8 section[edit]

I feel that it is sort of unprofessional to have a short section that basically says "it's been officially announced that episodes 5-8 will be in production." Can it just be merged with other sections? --Dubtiger (talk) 02:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I've given episodes 5, 6, 7, and 8 their own respective sections; I've also removed the offending sentence. Patrician Vetinari (talk) 23:11, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone find a page we can cite as saying that Eps 5-8 have been announced? (I don't know Japanese.) ~Marblespire (talk) 03:58, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It hasn't been announced that it's in production. The site has quotes from the seiyuu implying they might make it, the quote from the audio commentary also says "maybe" they will make it. This is why you can't find a site that says they are in production. The episodes have aired on TV and they are making a Blu-Ray box set, so ToS isn't totally abandoned. Maybe they will announce the rest soon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.254.128.141 (talk) 15:42, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Episode 2[edit]

I felt there were too many assumptions here. I wish to change a few of them, but am not sure how I should go about doing so, so I thought I'd tell some of them here in hopes of someone else doing it. I apologize for this being so long. "Colette collapses after receiving her wings; she is later taken to a doctor." No doctor is mentioned or even appears. I just thought that they took her to a nearby inn since Raine and Genis are seen caring for her during this time, so this scene can probably be taken different ways. "Zelos is with Sheena outside Gaoracchia Forest..." Neither the animation nor the booklet released with it ever call this place Gaoracchia Forest. It refers to the area as "Tethe'alla--Lake...(?)" (there's a kanji after the one for lake I'm not familiar with). But the point is Gaoracchia Forest (ガオラキアの森) isn't mentioned. "This attack is likely Sacrifice- which can be made clear by the fact that Colette is knocked unconscious after completing the attack" (referring to the scene at Balacruf in which Colette is singing "Fiat lux -hikari are-" while attacking Magnius' Desians with some form of Angel magic). According to the animation, she fell unconscious because she couldn't handle using it, yet. It's actually more widely accepted that this is Holy Song, but that, too, is an assumption created by fans. Cutepresea (talk) 07:42, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You make a very good point; I've altered the sentences in question to cut down on speculation. I removed the sentence about Colette being taken to a doctor altogether: in this case, there was no appropriate way of eliminating speculation while differentiating between the animation and the game. Patrician Vetinari (talk) 03:30, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The phrase "receive now this holy song" is in the lyrics of Fiat Lux. It is most likely the Holy Song attack, but the anime never called it Holy Song. (67.177.160.195 (talk) 06:42, 17 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Airing in Japan[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that BS11 recently began airing the parts of it starting on July 4, playing an episode a week? Here are the dates and air times. Cutepresea (talk) 00:52, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, other shows have their first air dates listed on their Wikipedia pages. I'm hoping this plus the Blu-Ray box set means they'll announce dates for Tethealla part soon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.254.128.141 (talk) 14:52, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh boy...where do I...put it? Cutepresea (talk) 23:09, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken the liberty of adding some information on the BS11 airing to the article's introductory paragraph. The air dates of the individual episodes should probably be added to the infobox at the top of the page, if only for the sake of completeness; I would put them there myself, but I lack any knowledge of editing infoboxes. Tethe'alla Volume and Seiyuu Comments[edit]

I am posting this new section because I noticed people talking about Tethealla volume in a few discussions. Since not everyone has access to the same information due to language barriers I'll post a translation from this page: http://www.ova-tos.com/cast_staff.htm#c03 You can see from the seiyuu comments they haven't confirmed Tethealla Volume will be made. If you listen to the audio commentary you can tell they aren't certain in the commentary either. It is likely that it will be made, but it is still unconfirmed at this point if the seiyuu themselves don't even know for sure.

Here is full text of this page in English:

Lloyd Irving - Koinishi Katsuyuki

Hello everyone. Symphonia has finally reached its last episode. I don't want to think this is the end. Because there's still a Tethealla Volume. This one was the last of the first half of the game, sadness typical of Symphonia. Pain and strength, the figures of them walking forward, this is a bit of self praise, but it gave a very profound feeling. I've had a long relationship with Lloyd, but there aren't many characters I've been able to play for this long. I would like it to become my life's work. Please enjoy Symphonia. I really want to make Tethealla Volume.

Collet Brunel - Mizuki Nana

Collet finally became an angel... I knew this was coming since I already played her in the game, but to see it in film makes it really stab at your heart more. I think you were able to feel the love of Lloyd and his group, and Collet's honest feelings towards her precious friends. Everyone please burn it into your eyes and hearts!

Genius Sage - Orikasa Ai

I was able to feel the happiness of knowing "People live for the sake of people" through Collet's choice. That is what the 4th episode was about. I would like to know what kind of feeling it will give you. Lloyd's journey is just beginning. Please look forward to the day we can meet again.

Refill Sage - Touma Yumi

Collet becomes and angel... and that's the end of the Sylvarant Volume. Collet's bravery is painful. They set forth into Tethealla to restore her to her previous state. Whether or not we can continue depends on the assistance of our fans. Please give us a warm cheer! The was your homeroome teacher, Refill, wanting to see Collet's cheery face once again.

Kratos Aurion - Tachiki Fumihiko

This happens every time, but today the studio gave me a very good feeling. My character gets new clothes and I hope for new development. This show is steadily overflowing with more charm. The image left in my mind was Yuan's "Waruu" scene. (Note- I'm not sure what he means by ワル~)

Fujibayashi Shihna - Okamura Akemi

Collet was brave and cute, and it's so painful. Lloyd's group made the decision to cross the dimentional bend with Shihna. I want them to save Collet! Don't miss what happens next!

Zelos Wilder - Onosaka Masaya

In all, it was a lovely story. As I thought, Zelos didn't have much to say and he was extremely cool. If I do say so myself, he was eye catching. With everyone's help maybe we can see the rest of this lovely story. With your power, everyone, you can save Collet! I leave it to you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.254.128.141 (talk) 15:58, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Voice actors[edit]

On the article page I noticed that it lists the English voice actors for the anime/game but I'm fairly sure that so far the anime has only been aired officialy in Japan, so that the English voice actors were not involved in the anime. I think it might be confusing, even misleading for some readers to see the game's English voice actors even though they weren't involved in the animation at all. So I think they should be removed. I Feel Tired (talk)

Never mind, I decided to be bold and remove them myself. I Feel Tired (talk) 03:59, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
