Clarification needed

The sentence fragment "Is the former home of the now defunct Tanasbourne Mall." needs to be corrected. It can probably just be deleted and a sentence added to the Mall section itself that it is defunct, hopefully with a cited date that it went away.

Old Mall FYI

To the person who was wondering: Pay-Less the shoe people are not the Payless Drug (now Rite Aid) mentioned in the article regarding the old mall. Safeway did used to be on east side of 185th, now on the west. Ditto with Payless Drug (again now Rite Aid). One thing to keep in mind as the article spells out, where Haggen is and Target and Old Chicago and Petco and everything in the Tanasbourne Town Center on the east side of 185th is in Hillsboro. The address is Beaverton, but the city is Hillsboro. Sort of like on the north side of 26 the address is Portland (Westview HS at 4200 NW 185th Ave Portland, Oregon 97229), but its not the city of Portland. This is a common occurance throughout the United States, so please do not use addresses provided by the USPS. Look at city boundary maps for determining what city something is in. The Geography of nowhere

So there's this picture of a 5 lane street with a caption that says "Tanasbourne, Oregon neighborhood" - apparently it's a neighborhood for cars. The other striking thing about this article is that as in most of American suburbia we can only describe areas in terms of shopping opportunities. Sad, but true. The old mall that used to be there was an examplar of 70's architecture complete with round, bubble windows - it was at least a bit more interesting than what replaced it in that most of the stores were empty and were sometimes used by chiors as a place to practice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.94.38.34 (talk) 01:44, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

What picture would you recommend? As you say, its typical suburbia, so 185th (probably the most notable thing there) and the main road of the area with strip malls in the background seems like a good choice. Of course if you have a helicopter and can take an aerial photo of the area, that would be better. But we are limited to free pictures (i.e. please do not upload a picture you find on the internet or see in a book unless you own the copyright from actually taking the picture). As to shopping opportunities, there is more to the article than that, but it is dominant only because that is what tends to make it into reliable source. On Wikipedia we are not allowed to use original research, thus we are limited to what newspapers tend to report, and commerce is king (ties into who pays for advertising). Throw in that Tanasbourne isn't a real city, just a made up name of the developers, that straddles two cities and some unincorporated areas, and it becomes clear that it is difficult to define what it is. Sure the old mall was more interesting; going to the then rare multi-plex, eating at the Sunshine Pizza Exchange, shopping at the hobby shop or even shopping at the briefly there Miller's Dept. Store. Showing up the day after Christmas for the mad rush for Hallmark ornaments or the juxtaposition of the library branch next to the liquor store or the class A office space for professionals that is rare to find now. All of that makes for great memories, but its all original research, and not particularly encyclopedic. Aboutmovies (talk) 12:31, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Tanasbourne Mall clarification

I just finished translating this article into Japanese Wikipedia (see ja:タナズボーン (オレゴン州)), and I found the last section kind of misleading. It is Tanasbourne Mall, but not Tanasbourne Town Center, that was completed in 1975 and torn down in 1993 (so it's now defunct), right? If so, the section's lead should be like:

In 1974, construction began on a $6 million shopping center to be named Tanasbourne Mall located on the east side of northwest 185th adjacent to the Sunset Highway.

Otherwise, some readers could take it that Tanasbourne Town Center is defunct, or Tanasbourne Town Center and Tanasbourne Mall are even the same organization with different names. --Occhanikov (talk) 02:51, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
