The chuck type tap wrench is available in various lengths.
The smaller bar type wrench has a common variation in which a knurled screw is provided to lock the tool and prevent the slippage which occurs in the larger design shown.
The larger bar type tool shown is very widely known in the UK as an American Pattern wrench.
There is another bar design that I cannot find a photo of. This consists of two similar bars, each bar is circular at one end and blends into a rectangular cross section at the other. Each rectangular section has a 90 degree V shaped indentation. One bar has two plain circular holes, the other has two threaded holes. the tap is inserted in to the vees and two screws tighten the wrench. This gives the most rigid arrangement possible and accepts a very wide range of sizes. AnnaComnemna (talk) 18:30, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
