More info needed[edit]
What were they like? Where and when were they used? Any pictures? Were there specific devices manufactured to feed tape coming out of one machine into another, or was it all cobbled together ad hoc? I have a mental image of ARPANET admins relaying batches of bang path emails overnight between incompatible systems so that everyone was all linked up by UUCP, or whatever.
