Quoted in Masseket Soferim[edit]

According to the 1906 JE article Targum, a quotation from the Targum Sheni on Esther 3:1 appears in the Masseket Soferim (xiii. 6). In turn, the article on Soferim places it as having most likely been finalised in the 8th century. The tractate itself attributes the translated quotation to Rav Yosef, identified with Joseph bar Ḥama (3rd century), but this may or may not be accurate.

The JE's article Esther places the date of composition at around 800. Jheald (talk) 16:52, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This article reasons from an online source (Jewish Encyclopeia) to speculate about the targum's sources and date. This is original research, based on a single tertiary source. It should be cleaned up. --CRATYLUS22
