Textual contents[edit]

I'd like to remove this section. Its a list, easily found otherwere on the internet, and not what we are about. As a minor point, its off putting to editors wishing to grow the page, being unweildy and all. Ceoil (talk) 16:39, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Was thinking the exact same. Both lists, I'd say, especially considering that the ms is notable for its assorted illustrations – biblical, hunting, etc. scenes (been reading a bit, anyfink but an expert, so sorry if I'm talking bollocks).

Btw, isn't the pic on the intro all kinds of ugly? Tempted to take it out. This is more appealing, and relevant re ownership --Coco Lacoste (talk) 16:56, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Its narrative centers around a classic gothic tale of a damsel taken and held captive by a wild man." This is partially true of only a VERY small section of the book (fols.60v-63r). It's certainly not true of the book as a whole.

"However, while the book adheres to many of the romance ideals of the early 14th century, recasts the tale within an early Christian context, using the saga to present the internal spiritual struggle for control of a soul." What is the evidence for this assertion?

"The individual leaves intertwine chivalric scenes with more celesticial, but similarly charged imagery, such as the Virgin confronting the devil." What does "celesticial" mean? It appears to be gibberish.

"The text along the borders or margins of each page are often written in French" Borders and margins are not the same thing. The image captions mostly in Anglo-Norman; some are in Latin.

Are you going to "have another try"? I think it's better to have no information than to have bad/wrong/misleading information. So why not just delete stuff if you don't have time to learn enough about the subject to re-write?PeterKidd (talk) 09:05, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The digitised version of the manuscript I included offers a very similar (albeit more elaborate) list of textual contents, along with a brief description of each miniature and bas-de-page scene.
