Things needed[edit]

Here are some things the article still needs. If a Georgian speaker can find some more information, that would be fantastic. Of course, non-Georgian speakers are also welcome to step in as always.

  • Check I've got the Georgian title and transliteration right.
  • What does "sakrebulo" actually mean?
  • History: were there sakrebulos in the Soviet era? What about before that?
  • History: in early post-Soviet years, Sakrebulo was appointed rather than elected. How did that work? When did it change?
  • History: until recently, the Mayor was appointed by the President rather than elected by the Sakrebulo. When did that change?
  • Composition: how long are members' terms? Are the elections on a fixed schedule?
  • Powers: does the Sakrebulo exercise executive power itself, or mainly oversee the Mayor?

Thanks. --Reuben (talk) 05:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Second thoughts on title[edit]

I moved the article from "Tbilisi Assembly" to "Tbilisi Sakrebulo," but I'm having second thoughts. "Sakrebulo" and "City Council" are both used commonly in English-language sources, and "City Council" is certainly a more helpful title for the vast majority of readers. If any editors favor a move to "Tbilisi City Council," I would not oppose that. I do favor "City Council" over "Assembly" based on the preponderance of usage in outside articles. --Reuben (talk) 06:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
