.[edit]

An article with this title was deleted in October 2007. However, this is a term that has quite wide currency and would be a valuable addition to Wikipedia. The current description I have placed here is sufficient for a casual reader but clearly needs development. Granitethighs (talk) 20:18, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Technocentrism is frequently quoted in juxtaposition with ecocentrism which has been an entry in Wikipedia for some time and which I notice gets quite a large number of hits. Technocentrism is a word, like ecocentrism, that is well established in both the technical and popular literature. There is already an entry in Wiktionary but it is a term that needs some explanation - and that is where Wikipedia comes in IMO.Granitethighs (talk) 02:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The text in this wikipage is in many places stolen directly from the source. Is that really ok?

Update[edit]

I have edited some parts of this article and provided some sources in an effort to expand it. Let me know if there are problems or feel free to collaborate since this is listed as part of an article classified as vital by the WikiProject Technology. - Darwin Naz (talk) 11:03, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can technocentrism be seen purely as a contraposition to ecocentrism?[edit]

While it's certainly necessary to express the dichotomy technocentrism/ecocentrism, which I believe it is properly addressed in the section "Technocentrism vs ecocentrism", I feel that the general description is too specific.

I would find more appropriate to define Technocentrism in more generic terms, which imply a perspective that sees the technology as a "central" aspect of a certain argumentation.

Perhaps, a more general description would be in line with the definition of Seymour Papert expressed in section Origin of term:

Technocentrism is the fallacy of referring all questions to the technology.

This would respect the use of the term in reference to sectors that are different from ecology, like, for instance: philosophy, cultural and social studies.

Is there any opinion concerning this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Toslash (talkcontribs) 10:03, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is necessary to add antinomy with anthropocentrism[edit]

Criticism of technocentrism by authors from East and South Asia, especially from Eastern Europe and Russia, brings the understanding of technocentrism in antinomy closer not to ecocentrism, but to anthropocentrism, as opposed not to nature, but to man.
