Venders of disk utilities regularly claim that removing temporary files will not only free up storage space, but will improve system performance as well. Is this true, and if so, why?

Delete from harddrive?[edit]

Can't I just manually delete them from my hard drive?--Richard 22:49, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can. The only problem is that programs tend to store temporary files all over the place, and it can be hard to find them. A program can make it easier to find as many of them as possible, as well as making sure that you don't accidentally forget about something next time. -- kenb215 talk 02:50, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
