Redistricting/Cooper[edit]

This page needs some major edits after the 2022 redistricting cycle.

Not every Democrat failed to cross the 30% mark in the 6th district since Bart Gordon's retirement. In 2010, Brett Carter eked out 30.4% of the vote, although that would still round to 30% if you rounded it to the nearest full percentage point. Also, Randal Cooper got 33.7% of the vote in 2022 and carried one county in the district.

Randal Cooper is an odd matter in and of itself, though. Randal Cooper got less than 30% of the vote in every county except one: Davidson. He got over 70% of the vote in the part of Davidson County that was gerrymandered into the 6th district, which includes the Antioch, East Nashville, Madison and Old Hickory neighborhoods. Also, most of Lebanon and Mount Juliet were redrawn into Tennessee's 5th district, with only the easternmost parts of Lebanon remaining in the 6th along with outlying eastern and northern areas of Wilson County (including Watertown).

With what wording are we supposed to address this? Mount Juliet, and potentially Lebanon, are no longer among the district's largest cities, and Nashville may now be among them if you decide to count partially included areas. Also, while Cooper did get over 30% of the vote and carry one county in the district, that was only a portion of a county gerrymandered into the district; Cooper still failed to cross the 30% mark not only in the rest of the district but in every other individual county too (so every whole county, as well as the portion of Wilson remaining in the 6th). Please seriously consider major changes to or even a total revamp of parts of this article, given the sudden change in the district's geography and political climate.
