If anybody looks[edit]

If anybody looks for what to add to expand this stub, how about, can terragen files be used in other 3d programs?

I don't think they can be used directly. You can export them to certain image formats, and from said formats, which could be used by other programs. Hell, about a month ago I did some renders from some maps from a game that uses heightmaps. You can also export them to 3ds files, but I think you need a certain plugin.--Drat (Talk) 11:53, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good news then. :) I can imagine combining two different programs with two different rendering programs would be difficult, but hell, it's worth a try. Thanks a lot.

Separate article for Terragen 2?[edit]

I just created the Terragen 2 article as a redirect to this article (I figured that was more useful than leaving it completely nonexistent). However, given that Terragen 2 seems to be the most prominent incarnation of the program at this point in time, I'm wondering if it wouldn't ultimately make more sense to give it its own article and save this article for Terragen 0.9 (the original program). However I don't know precisely what Wikipedia's policies are on splitting articles, so does anyone know any reasons why this split would or wouldn't be disallowed, or have any thoughts on whether or not Terragen 2 deserves its own article? - green_meklar 21:00, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it should be split at least until Terragen 2 is released as anything other than a "technology preview". Normally only major software has separate articles for each version. Halsteadk (talk) 21:16, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

User:IPAddressConflict proposed an article merge back in September. Since there was no comment, I have begun a merge.

From April 2009, there was an article for Terragen Classic at Terragen, and one for Terragen 2. Since both articles are very short, they don't stand much chance of becoming a "good article" or a "featured article". If we combine them together again, that might give an inspired volunteer something to get their teeth into. The two applications are so closely related that it seems better for the reader to get the full story of all versions of Terragen in one go. As a reader, I was confused on first sight of the standalone article for Classic, as it did not clearly explain that the software continued to be developed as Terragen 2.

There are very few featured articles in computing. None deal with a single version of software. OpenBSD (4 versions in 1 article) and Opera (web browser) (9 versions in 1 article) are two examples of success with the approach I suggest.

I don't know much about the differences, similarities and histories of the versions. I have done what I can and leave it to others to research the details.

I noticed that Terragen 2 was given credit for several movies that, judging by the calendar, may have been Terragen Classic.

Terrain generation?[edit]
