Instars[edit]

Beetles undergo a full metamorphosis with egg, larva, pupa, adult. The larva may molt several times, but it looks more or less like a worm. Beetle larvae are often called "grubs." True bugs have the incomplete metamorphosis with instars between molts, each instar looking more or less like the adult does. An insect enthusiast or entomologist could use to visit this article; Tetraopes is quite common in cities, a beetle most Americans see from time to time.
