Location of the second theatre[edit]

The text says the second theatre was built on the "boulevard Saint-Martin, at the corner of rue de Bondy (now rue René-Boulanger)." However the caption for File:Place Johann-Strauss, 1.jpg supposedly on the same site, says it is at 1 place Johann Strauss, Paris 10th arr. Any ideas? --Klein zach 04:00, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

McCormick says it was on the boulevard Saint-Martin at the intersection with the rue de Bondy. (Are you asking whether the rue René-Boulanger corresponds to the location of the rue de Bondy? Check fr:Rue de Bondy) A bigger problem is that the co-ordinates at the top of the article are for the second theatre. If we use Template:Infobox building for both theaters, the co-ordinates can be entered into the box for each building. Infobox building has a slightly different look, which may not be ideal, but it would solve that problem. (Or we could split the article.) --Robert.Allen (talk) 11:45, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another alternative would be to modify Template:Infobox theatre so that there is an option to display the co-ordinates in the box rather than at the top of the page. (Michael Bednarek may be able to help us, if we'd rather to do that instead.) Also, the current co-ordinates may not be very accurate. I seem to recall that although the rue de Bondy intersected the boulevard Saint-Martin, probably in a location adjacent to the Place Johann-Strauss, the modern rue René Boulanger skirts it without intersecting. --Robert.Allen (talk) 12:04, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am basically in favour of splitting because one location/one article is so much easier to organize, though someone at the Paris taskforce was against it. (I'm not convinced that there is one company/entrepreneur/tradition here though I may be wrong.) I've seen co-ordinates included in the infobox fields, I don't think putting them in the picture caption really works. On the addresses, I think it would be good to nail down the precise old and modern details (including arr.) --Klein zach 02:39, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like the same company built the theatre on the boulevard Saint-Martin after the fire. McCormick describes it this way: "In 1827 the Ambigu burnt down. For reasons of safety, the authorities were worried about the idea of two large theatres next door to each other, and so a new site had to be found. The Ambigu moved a short distance from the boulevard du Temple to the corner of the boulevard Saint Martin and the rue de Bondy." There is no indication that a different company revived the name at the new theatre. Arrondissement may be tricky. Each location appears to be close to a boundary. I found an 1869 map showing the theatre at 2 boulevard Saint-Martin was in the 10th. It is just north of the boundary which runs down the middle of the boulevard. --Robert.Allen (talk) 10:33, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
