Military bases and facilities[edit]

I will try to add a list of the various military bases and facilities situated at Thaba Tshwane to the article soon. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:41, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Military base or suburb?[edit]

Is this place a military base complex or suburb that just happens to contain military facilities? The answer will determine which infobox is used. Template:Infobox military installation has been on the page since early 2014. It is a "census place" but is that sufficient reason to use Template:Infobox South African town? Hi Dodger67, thanks for starting this thread. As I mentioned to you some years back, I lived there for 40 years and therefor have first-hand knowledge of Pretoria and surrounds.
  1. The Roberts Heights/Voortrekkerhoogte of say pre-1970 was "more militarized", possibly consisting of more "Army camps" (military bases) than anything else.
  2. Since the modernisation of the area, there came into being schools, civilian dwellings, cafe's, stores and beer halls.
  3. After Apartheid etc. in 1994, the area was opened for flow-through of motor traffic (both civi and mil) to connect eastern (eg Valhalla) and western (eg Laudium) suburbs outside of VTH.
  4. The area was incorporated into the much larger City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, that was created in 2000. Previously the area was administered by the Voortrekkerhoogte Housing Committee under auspices of the SADF.
Above facts all prove that it is a regular residential suburb, having average military installions as "home base" of our Defense Force. Certainly none of the main streets are cordoned off, or boom gated as you may think.
Lastly, I used the Template:Infobox South African town that gives a better picture of Thaba Tshwane, since 22 parameters are returning data to the article's reader, compared to 3 (name, coord and date built) only with Template:Infobox military installation!!
