Source of 'altertnative interpretation'?[edit]

On Feb 3, 2006, user Wil allsopp added the following section:

Alternative interpretation of the ending.
The Black Corridor is essentially a novel about the decay of society and deep personal and social isolation this has caused.
Another interpretation of the ending was that there never was a spaceship. Ryan's friends and family, too terrified to leave the apartment have been sucked into Ryan's fantasy of escaping to another world. Eventually, they've turned on one another until ultimately Ryan killed them and stashed their bodies. This is supported by both the first and last chapters as well as subtle pointers throughout.

In discussing the novel on the Moorcock's Miscellany website, Moorcock's bibliographer, John Davey, states:

I've read it several times, and each time seem to see different layers of interpretation within it...It's certainly never occurred to me, though, that there was never a spaceship in the first place. I think that's definitely one interpretation too far.

— John Davey, [1]

I wonder if it's possible to get a citation for the 'alternative' interpretation suggested by Wil Allsopp? Or alternatively, a detailed explanation of the "subtle pointers throughout". Demos99 16:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agreed. Having just finished this novel and looking it up here for any interesting supplemental information, that interpretation seems bizarre to me - I never considered that at any point during the story, and inspecting the story again with the suggestion in mind, can still not see any sense in it. 78.105.123.15 (talk) 20:02, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
