Is this article about the book or about the film?[edit]

Did the writer of this article actually read its subject?

Agreed. Obviously the author only saw the movie. The personalities of the characters are completely different, the Master is not named (as far as I can remember), and Kirby is actaully "The Hoover." Critique of anthropomorphism?[edit]

I remember reading somewhere that the book was intended as a reductio ad absurdam of Disney-style anthropomorphism, but that the movie basically played it straight and missed the entire point. If I can find a reference on that... 70.183.63.108 18:31, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His name is HOOVER, not KIRBY[edit]

Is the F&SF story the same as the book?[edit]

I read the story in F&SF in 1980, but I don't think it was novel length. If it was, then it was serialized in three issues, and the article should note that. But I think what I read was seriously less than novel length--maybe 40,000 to 50,000 words. However, it was 30 years ago, and I could be misremembering.

So is the book the same as the F&SF story, or is it a longer version? If they are the same and it was a single issue of F&SF, a word count would be nice. Randall Bart Talk 06:08, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
