Presidents list[edit]

Does anyone else think that the 'past president' page should just be turned into 'notable past presidents' and only those who have a page of their own should be included? This seems like self-promotion by the club, I doubt anyone is looking up who the president in 1967 was if that person is not anyone famous. Sourcing[edit]

As it stands, this article appears to be almost entirely lacking in the third-party sources necessary to establish notability of the subject. I suggest that this is rectified.

It should also be noted that citing the 'Harvard Advocate Archives' might possibly also be seen as questionable, as they appear not to be published works. AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:42, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Andy, those are valid points, thanks. To some extent, I think WP:ABOUTSELF and WP:SOURCEACCESS, do apply here, with respect to WP:V. Given the prominence of some of the people who (before becoming prominent), were on the magazine, third party notice does exist. Sourcing 2[edit]

By way of explanation to the editors (students, I'm pretty sure) who are adding names of past members, where you see me adding the "^{[citation needed]}" tag, what that means is that there should be a source given that the person actually was on The Advocate. Hello, I'm a current member of the Advocate who has been culling the archives, looking at mastheads and editing the page. I've opted for the citation "Harvard Advocate Archives" in a lot of cases. We are in the process of digitizing every old issue at which time all of the mastheads will be online and linkable. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia (from a long-ago former member, by the way)! The "official" Wikipedia answer to your question is to point to WP:Verifiability, which requires everything to be cited, especially since another editor (in the talk section immediately above) has expressed concern about sourcing. If, in the future, it will be possible to cite the Advocate issue XX, year XXXX, specifically for each person, that would be excellent, and it's perfectly fine to use a lesser workaround in the mean time. But what I would advise against is to simply add names with no superscript link to a citation at the end of the line. That's what a lot of student edits have been doing lately, and that's why I keep adding the "cite needed" tag. You run the risk of someone else (not me) coming along and deleting everything you are adding. For now, putting "<ref name=Archives/>", as I see you have just started to do, is entirely satisfactory. Please continue to do that. In the future, adding more exact details would be welcome, but there is no hurry for that. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:41, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FDR[edit]

I don't have access to the archives, but I have a recollection of hearing that Franklin Roosevelt was on the Advocate.
