Spinning off film information into separate article[edit]

According to the Wikipedia guideline on "future films", a separate article shouldn't be created for an upcoming film until it's confirmed that principal photography has begun, so I've been waiting to see a news report that The Help has started shooting (since they were scheduled to start this month). Once principal photography has started, I don't think there'd be any question that the film has received enough press coverage from reliable sources to justify an article.

This morning I read this article, published two days ago, which says "'The Help' began shooting this month in Greenwood, Miss". Which is probably enough to satisfy the guideline, but right now I'm inclined to wait for some additional confirmation, which I'm sure will be coming soon. Trimming the plot summary[edit]

It's way too long. Check out Wikipedia:How_to_write_a_plot_summary or the Featured Article To Kill a Mockingbird. I don't have enough time to do it now, plus it's been a while since I read this book. I put a request in at the Novel Wikiproject, but if it's anyone interested in doing it.. please go ahead! Thanks. --CutOffTies (talk) 03:09, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Media Controversy[edit]

Does this page need a section discussing the controversies that the book and film have raised? See for instance http://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/controversy-legitimate/ for the recent statement by the Association of Black Women Historians (ABWH). The references currently in the article are overwhelmingly positive in tone, emphasizing the book's importance for exploring issues of race and gender, but the statement from the ABWH begins: "Despite efforts to market the book and the film as a progressive story of triumph over racial injustice, The Help distorts, ignores, and trivializes the experiences of black domestic workers. We are specifically concerned about the representations of black life and the lack of attention given to sexual harassment and civil rights activism." 82.28.150.143 (talk) 12:43, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you can provide citations from reliable sources and stay away from original research, sure. Thanks. --CutOffTies (talk) 13:09, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Money designations[edit]

The novel is an American book published in America. Shouldn't the money be in Dollars ($) and not Pounds (£)? I am just wondering...Babowman (talk) 01:34, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The reference gives British currency. That doesn't make much sense, but unless you can find a citation with the American amount, it seems like that's what we should be using. --CutOffTies (talk) 02:16, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It makes perfect sense if you have any unless the reference isn't British. 72.228.177.92 (talk) 02:51, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Even moreso now that I see the reference is a tabloid that would hardly be expected to use anything else. Enough! 72.228.177.92 (talk) 02:53, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ATTENTION: Character List has been lifted from my site[edit]

The Character list shown on your The Help page has been lifted virtually word for word from my site: A Critical Review of The Help. Please remove it. Criticofthehelp (talk) 15:45, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Criticofthehelp! Thank you for telling us, and I have now removed the list. Of course we should not violate your copyrights. When you first removed the list of characters from the article, you did not explain why - which is the reason why they were put back on. With friendly regards, Lova Falk talk 15:55, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see no evidence of a copyright notice on the wordpress blog, nor do I see any evidence that the blog was published prior to the addition of the text in question to this WP article. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 16:04, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In his/her defense, the blog post was clearly made on or before June 29, 2011, at which point this article had no "Characters" section. Then on December 24, 2011, the "Characters" section sprang fully-formed into existence, pasted in by an IP whose other contributions also have copyright problems. Furthermore, a copyright notice is not required, works are copyrighted by the original author regardless of notice given. I would say that there is merit to this accusation. My grateful thanks to all of you. I do have proof, thanks to wordpress date stamping and keeping copies of posts and any revisions. The list has been on my site since 2010, and has been viewed by a vast number of individuals. Again, my thanks to you all for your speedy resolution of this matter.
