Crime forum[edit]

@Fixuture: Crime forum is a nebulous almost-but-not-quite made up by myself term, condensing disparate references into a single article. I consider a crime forum to cover the discussion of criminal activity, even it crime does not take place there nor is it frequented by criminals. See also /r/darknetmarkets. Hence I consider this a crime forum Deku-shrub (talk) 22:35, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Deku-shrub: Wikipedia needs to treat nebulous and not yet established things with caution - calling this site a crime forum more or less entails calling all its users criminals. I'd say that category should better be used only for websites whose usage in itself is a crime / whose purpose is crime besides if that term becomes clearly established as to referring to all sites which discuss criminal activity (which is something I doubt ever happens). --Fixuture (talk) 22:46, 20 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point of view, but I don't agree. Let's say it's not a crime forum, instead it's a discusison-about-crime forum instead. What would what one call such forum instead? Perhaps there are not enough to generalise from? Thoughts? We could rename the entire category to Category:Crime discussion forums for instance Deku-shrub (talk) 22:49, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Deku-shrub: Well not calling it anything more specific than Internet forum is still better than basically calling all its users criminals (at least in the public conception of the term). But if there needs to be a category that entails both types of websites (and everything in between) the category should be moved to a clearer name - e.g. sth similar to the terminology you used above, like "Internet forums about crime". For this also see Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary#Neologisms ("Instead, it is preferable to use a title that is a descriptive phrase in plain English if possible, even if this makes for a somewhat long or awkward title.")
But it's really hard to delimit the necessary category/ies and their articles (afaik and as of right now at least) - e.g. most Internet forums have some discussion about crime - but does this make them an "Internet forum about crime"? When does a forum become relevant to the category (once it has a high level of discussion about crime, once it has a subsection about crime, once its main focus is crime, once its focus is a specific type of crime? etc.) and when would an Internet forum be less relevant to "Internet forums about crime" than maybe a 2nd category for forums whose purpose is crime or whose (proper) usage may be a crime in itself (carding forums etc)? Anyhow this develops and how this develops I think it's a good idea to be cautious with the term "crime" (e.g. also note that the Internet is international and there's different laws in different countries so what may be illegal in one country might be perfectly legal in another, that in some cases there are exceptions to the law depending on purpose and user {e.g. medical marijuana} and that discussing crime is not a crime even in the case that the information discussed suggests the users to be "criminals"). --Fixuture (talk) 19:29, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"is still better than basically calling all its users criminals" - this should be avoided, I agree. The fact that a small amount of discussion about crime is common is also true. I'll give an analogy, is there such thing as a Piracy forum? I would argue there are many, but it is hard to classify in a great many cases. Hence the most notorious websites are chat and forum based, hence the emergence of this term in the references I cited. Deku-shrub (talk) 20:28, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't there be an external link to the site?[edit]
