The Irish RepublicThe Irish Republic (book) – Most of the people are looking for the Irish Republic itself, not the book, so if we move the page to The Irish Republic (book), then the people actually looking for the book can just search for the book, and the people looking for the Irish Republic by typing in 'The Irish Republic' will get an article about the Irish Republic. 🌶️Jalapeño🌶️ Don't click this link! 10:06, 6 August 2023 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). 82.193.210.78 (talk) 12:47, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong support per WP:ASTONISH. this is one of the most egregious examples of failure to follow WP:CRITERIA for user-friendliness I have seen on en.wp. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:39, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom and WP:ASTONISH. To my mind, and for the reasons noted by others above, I don't think the 2014 move/rename of this article (explained as as "unnecessary disambiguation") was fully considerate of the issues that could be (and objectively were) caused by relying entirely on "The" to distinguish the title of a work from the subject of a work. Probably should be moved back... Guliolopez (talk) 19:42, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Not controversial really.  — Amakuru (talk) 19:51, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently it is, because of this and this and this and this and this... Yeah, it really shouldn't be, the only point that this isn't controversial is that this page was moved from the currently proposed title way back in 2014.
Facepalm Facepalm The guy who moved the page was completely inconsiderate, and the disambiguation was completely necessary, as per the reason stated by me in the nomination. UtherSRG was basically grasping at straws to consider this a "controversial" move request. 🌶️Jalapeño🌶️ Don't click this link! 20:30, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:ASTONISH as a reasonable search term for Irish Republic. A disambiguation page already exists at Irish Republic (disambiguation), so I see no problems with this. Schminnte (talk contribs) 01:44, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Obvious. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:00, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. There's no evidence whatsoever that most of the people landing here are looking for the Irish Republic itself. It seems more likely that someone taking the extra step to type "The" in front of "Irish Republic" wants the book. But in any case, the book averages only about 2 hits per day compared to over 500 for Irish Republic,[1] so this doesn't seem to be a big problem, and to the extent it's a problem at all, the hatnote takes care of the rare reader in the wrong place. • Weak support the 1919-1922 state has 10,240 views, the 1798 one has 978 views, the Republic of Ireland has 169,228 compared with only 156[[2]] for the book. Google with quotes does not return anything for the book though when entering the term into Google before adding the quotes and pressing enter the book was offered in the dropdown. Redirect back to the DAB as I don't think its likely there is a primary topic for the title with "The" so its probably safest to disambiguate. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:43, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
