"Was a pub"[edit]

Regarding User:Lewishhh's revert of User:StargazyPython to put this pub back in the past tense of "was a pub", is this not misleading to the reader? How is this different from any historical London pub that has ever closed and reopened under new management? Will the Pillars of Hercules, Soho become "was a pub" if and when it reopens, if the new refit fails to attract any literary figures?

The article should certainly make it absolutely clear that all the live music and eccentric decor was under past management, now gone, but I don't think we should imply that the pub now no longer exists at all. --Lord Belbury (talk) 23:38, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The page was originally started as The Montague Arms (music venue) to differentiate it from Montague Arms, a pub of the same moniker but not a music venue.

The Montague Arms' notability was entirely that it was a space for music and performance. I'll concede that some mention of there being an existing Montague Arms in the same space as the Queens Road one, but should it not be more akin to The Marquee Club page referring to the 'Wetherspoons pub named "The Montagu Pyke" [that] now occupies the building' rather than considering the current colonial style gastro-pub as the same entity as the historic venue just because they retained the name.

For example the line 'It was known for its eccentric decor' was changed to /is/ known when the page was changed tense, this is not correct as the style is entirely not eccentric now. --Lewishhh (talk) 10:10, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe "The Montague Arms was a music venue located at... The pub venue was known for its eccentric decor." would be a clearer way to open the article? --Lord Belbury (talk) 11:03, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like you both have come to a good balance of categorisations/tenses - thanks for that. I did the original edit because I was helping run an (ironically enough, music-based) event there, and people kept pinging me saying "Are you sure this place is open? Wikipedia says it's not!".
