Removal of shark week link from quote with aforementioned subject

As these quotes are meant as jokes, shark week is apparently a real event not spurred by the Dos Equis campaign. Therefore, the inclusion of the link is irrelevant to the quote and does not provide any meaningful background information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuemerle5 (talkcontribs) 05:51, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Just because a statement is humorous doesn't mean that it can't be base in reality. The above logic is faulty. The link should be reinstated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fitchhollister (talkcontribs) 03:33, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

How does a link to Shark Week not provide meaningful background information? Saying "Sharks have a week dedicated to him" loses a vast majority of its meaning if you don't know what Shark Week is. Shark Week is a week about sharks, because people tend to find them very interesting. By saying sharks dedicate a week to the most interesting man is saying that even sharks find him incredibly interesting. A link to Shark Week provides essential information, I believe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.16.37.252 (talk) 04:38, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Young MIMITW

Does Goldsmith also portray the young version of the most interesting man in the world in the grainy black-and-white shots? The man does appear younger but it could just be that his hair and beard are black and the film quality is rougher plus maybe some digital touching-up. I couldn't find this out in a quick google search but maybe someone knows or is better at google? thanks. -- InspectorTiger (talk) 23:35, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I've read, somewhere on the 'Net, that some of the older footage is from Mr. Goldsmith's earlier films, some are from his earlier films digitally remastered, etc., etc., etc. Apple8800 (talk) 07:16, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Image

Isn't this a case where a screenshot from the actual commercial would be appropriate/acceptable? An out of character picture of Goldsmith doesn't really illustrate the commercials. john k (talk) 17:48, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

If you can get the "stay thirsty, my friends" one, the "when I do, I prefer XX" one or one of the ones where he's giving advice, I wouldn't stop yah Purplebackpack89 23:55, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
What about this? It appears to be from a print ad. john k (talk) 02:29, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
More broadly, a google image search on "Most Interesting Man in the World" turns up a lot of results. Any thoughts on which one looks best? john k (talk) 02:30, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Operating on broad generalities, I'd go with this or that...maybe this, 'cept he's smoking Purplebackpack89 06:46, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I like your first and third - probably the first best. Let me try to read over all the non-free image rules so that I can be sure to do all the rationale right (the rules about copyrighted images can be really onerous, so I want to make sure the images complies and won't get deleted) and I'll try to do it in the next few days, unless you'd rather. john k (talk) 06:39, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Dubious claims

There is no independent or direct evidence on the effectiveness of the commercials.

I find that almost impossible to believe and I suggest some further research. Although I detest the advertising industry, I do pay attention to it with at least one eye open, and I know that industry insiders (and sources) consider it one of the most successful advertising campaigns in its class, and I'm sure the trade magazines talk about it like crazy. The decision to use Frontline's Will Lyman and the lines "I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis", and "Stay thirsty, my friends" are not just brilliant in their campy tenor and understated, 1970s retro-style Orson Welles "We will sell no wine before its time" muted enthusiasm, but stand out from every other commercial of its time. That this has been discussed a thousand times in the sources is a given. That this was effective at increasing sales by 22% is a fact confirmed by Information Resources, Inc.[1] Mistaken editor is mistaken. Viriditas (talk) 14:16, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
