Non-encyclopedic tone[edit]
This sentence strikes me as non-encyclopedic and excessively dramatic:
In these and other stories, Joyce Carol Oates explores with bloodcurdling insight the ties that bind—or worse.
It would be okay as quote (in which case, attribution required).
But it's inappropriate as it stands.
