Swedish Rhapsody[edit]

The tune commonly associated with these words is almost identical to the second theme of Hugo Alvfén's Swedish Rhapsody No. 1, which is based on a Swedish folk tune. From the note doublings in the English tune, it seems more likely that the Swedish tune came first, or that they have a common folk origin (pace the article's comments about the London Bridge similarity). But this is speculation; there may be actual research on the tune's origins, but it would be obscure. David Brooks (talk) 22:41, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of song[edit]

This article says things that imply that the song has always been "The Old Gray Mare". Many web sites, however, say that the song was initially "Down in Alabam'". The song's history section says nothing about Alabama, so it definitely contradicts what the other web sites say. Anything I'm getting wrong?? Georgia guy (talk) 13:29, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Has anyone tried to stop you from citing reliable sources to add this new material to the article? If not, you have no one to blame except yourself if the article is wrong. --Jayron32 01:21, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
