I cut the line that claims that most experts would agree that the special effects in Oz were more spectacular. I'm an expert, and I don't agree. What is the reference for that? Also, the article failed to mention that the film also beat Gone with the Wind in special effects. Chandler75 20:58, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I cut even more. I don't think it's necessary to mention any of the films it beat, especially when it's supported by the weasely worded "most audiences". Until someone takes a poll.... It's enough to say that it won. I watched this film only a few weeks ago and I was surprised, having not seen it for some years, at how sophisticated the special effects were considering how long ago it was made. Adaptation for Radio?[edit]

The commentary that comes with the DVD version of The Rains Came (Fox Studio Classic series) indicates there was also an adaptation for radio; however, nothing remains of the radio broadcast.

Does the movie depart from the book's storyline?[edit]

I haven't read the book yet, but I did see the 1938 movie.

Far from being the story of a woman's redemption, this was more a story of parallels: the Maharani's loss of her husband, somewhere around where the movie begins (though we see a portrait of him in the hall to the royal court) and then there is the issue of Myrna Loy's character's loss of her husband (played by Nigel Bruce) to the flood, and her dying wish that George Brent's character marry the 18 year old girl who was scheming to get him, anyway. These are all instances of women choosing their mates, rather than the other way around, and each time, the man gets the worse of the bargain, as though there were some kind of Karmic irony going on. Although half of the movie appears to follow Tyrone Power and George Brent around, the last half hour appears to follow Myrna Loy into the hospital to take character of "plague" victims - surely a place that tempts fate, and so she meets with her own fate soon enough. The DVD version includes a commentary between two film critics who suggest there were some scenes that were cut from the final version of the film, such as the instance of a laborer climbing a ladder and inspecting the integrity of the recently constructed dam.

Did I miss something? The scene at the hospital seems to have been added onto the movie at the last second, in order to highlight the tragedy of Myrna Loy's character's death. 05:15, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

It's not so much whether the film is worthy of a separate article, but whether the book is. At the moment, I would say there isn't enough material for the book, so I will change the article to be about the film.
