this film flopped so hard that the wikipedia page has barely been visited!

But actually a good film

But the fact that it was not a widely distributed film should not be confused with the quality of acting and the measure of the story involved. In not adapting the novel to a more modern audience, the filmmakers probably doomed the release to limited distribution. However, those familiar with the novel will appreciate the film's very loyal adaptaion of the source material, which was distinctly reminiscent of the early 1970s and the then-popular vision of the struggling writer, as well as its connection with the urban blight that then plagued large portions of New York City.
