Surely a page showing the UK single and albums #1 by a UK contestant would be more beneficially and less cluttered than full expanding discography of every release from all contestants? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musicality123 (talkcontribs) 19:51, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List order[edit]

The list is not completely in order with any standard. Perhaps order it according to the position they ranked each season, with group singles like "All 12 finalists" at the end. ⊾maine12329⊿ talk 07:59, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's supposed to be in order of series, and then by position, but the group singles are out of order. I think it should be in order of single release date, with those not charting or not released in the UK removed (this was the case in the past, and it was restricted to the top 100). Also all chart positions need references. –anemoneprojectors– 15:14, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For tidy Up shall we -
..suggest ...SEARCH BY ARTIST ...go to single or album and use the one page as a citation for all entrys on that page.
  • Shall we remove all DNC (at least)?
  • Put it all in one standardise order (It starts by series position as suggested by anemone, but from Jedward onwards, where it mostly goes by release date rather than show position)? -- BOD -- 12:55, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with all that. officialcharts.com is the best place to get the chart positions. I'd rather see the list in order of release date rather than by series. –anemoneprojectors– 13:18, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Will leave main changes for a couple of days for other responses. So standardise each series (subsection) in order of their first UK release date ...rather than the individual contestants placement in the series? just double checking? -- BOD -- 15:32, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, what I'm suggesting is to order everything in date order, not grouped by artist or by series. So the "rowspans" that Unreal7 put in would have to be reverted. –anemoneprojectors– 15:50, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh lol..> whatever looks best. The is a certain neatness in grouping all the songs by the same artist together. But fixing it that way on a couple of series this morning (thinking that was prefered)...I found editing the page bit tricky. Will wait to any more responses, but will go by the majority. -- BOD -- 16:01, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It actually does look quite neat as it is, but here's a hypothetical situation. A contestant from series 5 or 6, for example, releases their debut single and it charts. You'd have to find the right position for it - series and order - so I think it's easier to just add the newest songs to the end and have them all in chronological order. –anemoneprojectors– 16:11, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it would be easier (I find the page tricky to edit) but the other way looks lots neater (but hard for a novice editor to contribute). It might be easier to add citations, while the 'artists' songs are grouped together, first before any change to pure date order. -- BOD -- 21:12, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also I think we should remove artists who didn't reach the live shows, so Dolly Rockers and Avenue should be removed - as well as all the DNCs and TBAs. –anemoneprojectors– 15:52, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I came to this talk page originally to ask about post series mixtapes and freestyles - I see now they equally dont qualify. Too much can change on TBA's and will. -- BOD -- 16:01, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh how I wish all the rowspans weren't in there - it means extra editing to remove the DNCs and TBAs. But removing them should mean the chart position column won't need to use the {{sort}} template, just the number without the leading 00s. –anemoneprojectors– 16:17, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Was just practising the long haul of adding citations - by adding remaining JLS and Diane Vickers singles , but we had a little edit conflict lol ...on Vickers entry one DNC for "Music to Make Boys Cry" BUT "Cinderella" which this page says charted at 76 (as does its own wiki page) is not mentioned on http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/_/diana%20vickers/ .... -- BOD -- 16:28, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
nor is it amongt the singles listed here http://www.officialcharts.com/search-results-album/_/Cinderella (is its own page doubtful) -- BOD -- 16:42, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the edit conflict! I have a feeling officialcharts.com is limited to the top 75. Maybe we should do the same. –anemoneprojectors– 17:05, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries:) I guess the are other reference sources, but maintaining continual good quality citations might be difficult to maintain, I agree on top 75 based on ease (I am new to this page, so will defer to older editors). -- BOD -- 17:21, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
LOL looking at an ip edit just made ... we have a TBA ...that turned DNC ...and with no citation to back up its unnoteworthiness, maybe ok on a bands own page but here it seems like a pointless entry. -- BOD -- 21:05, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If the is no objectiom I intend to remove all DNC and TBA and judges houses in 2 days, then add more easy citations from the official charts company. Ignoring songs that charted above 75 at this stage. -- BOD -- 09:13, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely no objection from me. And we would have to keep a close eye on this article to stop TBAs, DNCs and judges' houses sneaking in. –anemoneprojectors– 10:08, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cool ..will wait another day or so for anyone else. -- BOD -- 21:14, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
While adding citations ...I can not find any ref to Rachel Adedeji EP "Club Lights" at the official charts website (singles and albums), currently on this discography and on the list of contestants page it says it charted at 65 in the singles chart. Plus Q How are EPs treated anyway? -- BOD -- 21:14, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't aware that she had an EP. If you can't find it, remove it. EPs can either chart as singles or albums, depending on the number of tracks. –anemoneprojectors– 22:14, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think DNC by otherwise notable artists (with good citations) should remain as the DNC tells a story about the x factor artists successes and failures -- BOD -- 22:30, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe, but not if it's someone like 2 Shoes! Most DNCs won't be able to have good citations, but Leona Lewis's one would be, the one that famously didn't reach the top 200. –anemoneprojectors– 08:11, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should only include DNCs if they can be reliably sourced and if the artist has already released a song that charted. Also I don't think we should include people that didn't reach the live shows. –anemoneprojectors– 11:40, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Difficult choices. Personally I have only watched and taken interest in one series (series 8) of the program, it both distances me & biases me. From series 8 as an example Two Shoes, Johnny Robinson both had songs that DNC, while the Risk's (who came 9th) 'Missiles' charted at 60 on the official UK chart & Janet Devlin who came 5th and was very popular during and after the show - her song long awaited 'Wonderful' failed DNC on the main UK official chart. Two Shoes and Johnny Robinson are easy, but what about the Risk and Devlin. I guess we ought add the Risk's song, but is Devlin's DNC of sufficient interest. -- BOD -- 11:18, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(separately when I have time I/somebody need to check the claims on two Wikipedia pages for Franki Cocozza's 'She's Got a Motorcycle' chart success) -- BOD -- 11:18, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well in Devlin's case, if we can't reliably source that the song didn't chart, then we shouldn't include it. Or we just remove all DNCs and stick to the top 100, or 75, or 40. When this page was first made, it only included songs that had charted in the UK, and the article stated that. –anemoneprojectors– 11:26, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Minor point first... The citation that supports Devlin's DNC comes from at least one trust worthy source.
Re-edit ... DNC can be of interest and tells us more of the complete story of the successes and failures of the careers of xfactor contestants..from e.g Matt Cardle, Leona Lewis, Janet Devlin or even Jedwards chart failures. I guess DNC songs should be added if the artists are in notable in themselves to have a seperate Wikipedia page. Limiting to top 100 is interesting...same confused reply to your DNC suggestion I am afraid.

Are the similar Wikipedia discography pages we can learn from? -- BOD -- 16:39, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
DNC/low chart positions should be limited to songs that have good citations only...I/we have not got time to search for reference sources which other people have failed to supply ...do we give people 30? days to add citations, how do we notify interested editors (if they exist). -- BOD -- 17:00, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh it's so confusing. –anemoneprojectors– 17:53, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
LOL so much easier to do nothing -- BOD -- 18:19, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can we remove TBAs[edit]

Most struggling artists have hopeful TBAs they are very vague ... can we remove them ...we ought to be recording definite notable facts rather than possible future record releases & publicity. -- BOD -- 21:55, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Especially if they have no solid references to back them up -- BOD -- 22:29, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this should really be limited to songs and albums that have charted, as I've said before. –anemoneprojectors– 07:55, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Its sometimes good to reaffirm the obvious and the basics (I am also not a brave editor, I don't wish to upset other contributors) -- BOD -- 19:02, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
