Closure[edit]

---Another Believer (Talk) 01:35, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Should we hold off on adding a closure date to the infobox (and on making changes like saying it "was" a bar)? So far all the sourcing quotes the owner saying that it's "highly unlikely" Therapy will ever be able to reopen, but it does not appear to be definite yet. Armadillopteryxtalk 23:05, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Armadillopteryx, I don't feel strongly either way, but the Instinct source above says, "Unfortunately, Therapy in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood is one of the first major NYC LGBTQ nightlife establishments to shutter following the extended closure." Sounds 'done' to me, but if you find sourcing suggesting otherwise, that's different. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:22, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Another Believer, I do see that, but reading the rest of the article, it doesn't quote any information newer than the owner's statement about the "highly unlikely" reopening. It seems to have concluded on its own that that statement was definite, which isn't quite accurate (as far as I can tell). Armadillopteryxtalk 23:25, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Armadillopteryx, Ok! Unless you'd prefer I make any specific changes, I'll let you update the article as you see fit so we're not creating edit conflicts. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:27, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer: Okay ... so do you think we should change things back into present tense for the time being? FWIW, Therapy's Facebook page, where the original announcement was made, hasn't provided any update since that July 19th owner statement. Armadillopteryxtalk 23:29, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Armadillopteryx, If you think that's more appropriate, I'm fine not finalizing the closure until there's better confirmation. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:31, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer: Okay, I'll do that for now. We'll (sadly) probably be getting sourcing more definite to that end in the near future. Armadillopteryxtalk 23:33, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Armadillopteryx, Yup, agreed. Let's not base the closure off a single source. Good call! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:33, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've added some 'defunct' categories to the article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:25, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

@: Do you know if Template:Infobox venue is mapframe-compliant? The current map in this infobox is giant. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:45, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, it is. It's not in the template documentation, but I found out that image_map works, c.f. Value City Arena. I believe @Evad37: aims to update this infobox and others with more mapframe functionalities, and thus documentation along with it. ɱ (talk) 22:56, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
, Thanks for confirming. I just tried copying over the markup from Value City Arena, but see an error message saying the coordinates don't live at Commons. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:00, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, so either just you'll need to add the coords to the Wikidata entry too, or in the maplink template, add |coord={{coord|x|y}} --ɱ (talk) 23:03, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I wish maplink took coords directly from the article. I mentioned it to Evad37, who made it so you can just add "name=xyz" to the original coord template and add "type=named" to the maplink template to 'link' the two. ɱ (talk) 23:07, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: What solution did you end up using here? I'd like to understand how it works so I can replace those huge maps in a couple other articles. Armadillopteryxtalk 04:28, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Armadillopteryx, I actually just noticed if I removed the pushpin field info, the map displayed automatically. I was surprised since the coordinates don't live at Wikidata. I can't figure out all these different map options between the various infoboxes. I wish I knew how it all worked, but just removing the pushpin worked here, so hopefully for some of the other articles you have in mind as well. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:33, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Another Believer, yes, that's strange—I just tested this out (in preview only) over at Club Cumming and Barracuda Lounge, and it worked there, too. When I first created those articles, it didn't—possibly because they didn't have Wikidata entries then, but they do now. And yet, that still leaves Therapy unexplained, since its Wikidata entry does not contain the coordinates. Strange. Armadillopteryxtalk 04:38, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Let me look into it when I'm home, I'm familiar with where maplink gets its data from... Good to see a photo here now too. ɱ (talk) 18:44, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's from Jim Henderson adding the coords to Wikidata on August 1. Otherwise you'd have to use one of the methods I describe above. If I can help clarify or show on a new article, by all means let me know! ɱ (talk) 19:05, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

, Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:06, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Methods for coordinates are a mess. There's a "Location-tool" for pictures in Commons that works pretty well but not in ENWP or other languages. More important, not in Wikidata where most coordinates are stored now. Further, WD accepts only DMS format but many sources supply only D.xxx format, and conversion is clumsy and misleading as to precision. Well, this is not the place to continue ranting about coordinates. At least I got a moderately poor picture and might get a better one next week. Jim.henderson (talk) 17:18, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim.henderson: I agree, I find coords/maps very confusing on Wikimedia projects -- never quite sure which infobox uses which map type, etc. Thanks for taking pics of the building's exterior. (Also, you might want to sign your comment above!) ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:01, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim.henderson: Where's that location tool? I'd like to learn how to use it! Armadillopteryxtalk 18:14, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Armadillopteryx: SeeCommons:Commons:Locator-tool. I had the good luck to sit down for lunch in Montreal and complain about geotagging difficulties, completely clueless that I was talking to the inventor of this tool. There's also Commons:Commons:Geocoding, and its talk page might be good for whining. Hmm, should there be an online meetup on these topics? Jim.henderson (talk) 19:16, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim.henderson: Thanks for these resources! They look very helpful. I'll spend some time today familiarizing myself with them. Previously I always pulled coordinates from Google Maps, which are in D.xxx format and tended to be overprecise to the point of inaccuracy. I had started learning to use Wikimapia to resolve that, but I have had some difficulty with that tool. Armadillopteryxtalk 19:37, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • ... that many Broadway stars went to Therapy on Monday nights? Source: "The drag talk show draws names straight off Times Square marquees. 'Stage Fright brings the biggest names of Broadway out each week to chat about their careers and to just let their hair down and have fun,' says host Marti Gould Cummings." ([1])

Improved to Good Article status by Armadillopteryx (talk) and Another Believer (talk). Nominated by Armadillopteryx (talk) at 21:00, 1 July 2021 (UTC).[reply]

Interesting story, told in GA on excellent sources, no copyvio obvious. In the article, you don't have to take all-caps and icons from a ref title ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:59, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

COVID category[edit]

Another editor added Category:Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performing arts, which I removed, because I think Therapy is loosely connected to the performing arts. But, perhaps User:Armadillopteryx and/or other editors disagree. I wonder if other categories apply? There's Category:COVID-19 pandemic in New York City, Category:Restaurants disestablished during the COVID-19 pandemic (I'm not sure Therapy is considered a restaurant), or theoretically, Category:Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the LGBT community. Thoughts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 12:47, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another Believer, I wouldn't use the performing arts category, as I agree the connection is very loose. Therapy did serve food, so while it was primarily a nightlife venue, I would say it's not that farfetched to use the restaurant cat. Armadillopteryx 13:51, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Armadillopteryx, OK, I've added Category:Restaurants disestablished during the COVID-19 pandemic and Category:Restaurants disestablished in 2020, for now at least. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:09, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also adding Category:Defunct restaurants in New York City and Category:Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the LGBT community. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:10, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for creating that last one! I'll add a few things to it now. Armadillopteryx 17:09, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kyler Alvord quote[edit]

Am I overlooking the mentioned Kyler Alvord quote in the live or archived Thrillist URL? ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:34, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
