This article is in decent shape, but it needs more work before it becomes a Good Article.

Is it well written?
A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
In the lead, it would be more encyclopedic if "#1" was changed to "number one".

B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
Dates need to be unlinked, per here. In the lead, it would be best if "funk" was linked once, per here. The image in the Conception section should not be left-aligned directly below a level 2 header, per here. Same section, the link to "Everyday People" needs to be fixed. Same section, "Billboard" needs to be italicized, per here. In the Album artwork section, why is "1970s" linked? In the Initial section, italicize "Billboard".

Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?
A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:

B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
Does Reference 8 cover all this ---> "Following the massive acclaim of their previous LP, 1969's Stand!, and the new found fame it engendered, Sly & the Family Stone were due to have submitted an album of new recordings to Epic Records in 1970. However, creative head of the group and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone missed several recording deadlines, worrying CBS executive Clive Davis.
