Merger proposal[edit]

This and Clostridium thermosaccharolyticum are the same bacterium. Most of the sources linked in both pages give the name Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum as the correct one; https://lpsn.dsmz.de/species/thermoanaerobacterium-thermosaccharolyticum (listed in this article indirectly as an external source), however, indicates that Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum is a synonym and that Clostridium thermosaccharolyticum is the correct name. Help from an expert is probably needed here to resolve where this organism should be located. El monty (talk) 09:21, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, according to UniProt ( https://www.uniprot.org/taxonomy/1517) and NCBI (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy/Browser/wwwtax.cgi?id=1517) Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum is the currently accepted name. Instead, Clostridium thermosaccharolyticum is a synonym still used for legacy purposes because this historical name appears in past publications.
So, there seems to be some contradictory information in LPSN, at least when comparing with NCBI or UniProt taxonomy... As a matter of fact, in the LPSN page you mention, it is stated in the Notes: "Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum is the correct name if this species is regarded as a separate species within a separate genus Thermoanaerobacterium."
I think this is the case of Wikipedia article.
I agree that both articles may be merged, but keeping Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum and redirecting Clostridium thermosaccharolyticum to the first one. Eepavan (talk) 10:22, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
