Best known[edit]

@Drmies: and @Kww: Coupe is best known for being a captain of several sailing ships, and one of early settler of Whidbey island. Most of the sources that mentioned him only referred him for sailing a full-rigged ship through Deception Pass. What is actually incorrect there? • Well, strictly speaking, you can't argue "best known" from him not being described in other ways/contexts, so there's that. I just ran into Delirium Tremens (now redirected), where I was able to verify that the brewery is best known for that one particular beer, so I kept it there: sources said it explicitly. That's not the case here, so as pedantic as it may sound, it's best to not make that claim. I'll tell you something else: I'm starting to get irritated by the phrase as well in so many Wikipedia articles. In most cases it's merely redundancy, written in to make a claim of importance; in other cases it's just filler--if it's the only thing we know, it must be the thing for which something is best known... BTW, thanks for your edits: I was looking at the same sources but you beat me to it; I suppose you were already done with the dishes. Drmies (talk) 05:43, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
