Last name[edit]

She went by the name Madison through the 2012 Olympics. Olympic results still show her name as Madison. There is clear animosity between her and her parents since then and clearly she uses Bartlett now. Another editor has erased most mentions of her former name. I am now going back to replace Madison in the historical periods of time when her name would be publicly recognizable in sources as Madison. As a courtesy I am minimizing the mention of any last name through these sections. I'm posting it in talk because I anticipate controversy, possibly coming from the subject of the article herself. It's not the custom in any book, article, publication, etc, etc that I'm familiar with to refer to a woman's maiden name according to the time of events in her life, except as "then Jackson" for instance. So, I removed all but two necessary references to "Jackson." It's not Wikipedia's job to protect or deliberately offend sensibilities. Tapered (talk) 00:48, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
