Centre for the Study of Existential Risk[edit]

I removed the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk with the edit summary "there are numerous such centres, housed in Mill Lane this one doesn't appear significant in [the] history of Cambridge". However someone has now put it back, with a little tag saying "relevant? – discuss". As I've already stated my rationale for removing it, perhaps someone would like to discuss why it should be included. It seems obvious to me that a Timeline of Cambridge should only include items that are significant in the history of the city, which this clearly isn't.--Pontificalibus (talk) 11:10, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the timeline should include items relevant to the life of the city of Cambridge. However the University's Centre for the Study of Existential Risk has a unique and timely focus (global catastrophic risk) that seems particularly noteworthy. Academia takes place somewhere, and the university draws interesting people into Cambridge, affecting the experience of city residents. M2545 (talk) 11:41, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It has no significance to Cambridge's history. It's basically a tiny office down a backstreet - a small university centre, of which there are very many. Being research and teaching-orient they are all unique and timely e.g. Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research, Centre for India & Global Business, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership etc etc. We could include them all. However I really think this sort of thing needs to have a bigger impact to be on this list, otherwise it becomes a list of all the companies and organisations. --Pontificalibus (talk) 12:08, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
